Infosys Interview Experience - Kolkata, September 9, 2014

Posted By : Samrat Pal Rating : +86, -2
Hi, I attended Infosys interview on September, 2015.

At first there was an aptitude test on Logical reasoning, Verbal reasoning and Critical reasoning. There will be no technical aptitude(Eg: C, C++ or Java) questions. English was quite tough. If you clear the aptitude, then there is 80% chance that you are selected. 605 students appeared for aptitude, and 305 cleared it.

Now the interview process:

We were asked to come at 9 am in the morning. The interview was taken in alphabetical order. My turn came at 6 pm.

Me: May I come in sir?
Interviewer: Yes. (My interviewer was young and not at all friendly)

I sat down without making any sound. I forgot to say good evening out of nervousness. The interviewer was looking at my CV and asked me to go on. I started introducing myself.

Interviewer: Why IT? (I am from Chemical Engineering).
Me: Told that there are lots of projects from Chemical organizations for which technical people are required.

Interviewer: Tell me different stages of Software Engineering.
Me: I don't know sir.

Interviewer: Did you attend any IT seminars?
Me: I attended the pre placement talks of all the companies.

Interviewer: You don't take any interest in IT. Your marks are also average. Why should I take you? (My 10, 10+2 and Engineering marks are around 75%).
Me: I am from WB board. Its not easy to get marks.

Interviewer: Everybody came earlier had around 80-90%.
I gave my subject of interest in CV as Energy Technology.

Interviewer: What is energy Technology?
Me: It is the study of different types of fuels.

Interviewer: Explain IC Engines.
Me: Explained as much as I knew.

Interviewer: Why high grade petroleum is used in cars.
Me: answered. (Just study every bit of your CV also be prepared for the counter questions)

Interviewer: Write a program in C to swap two numbers.
(I knew the program)
Me: When I was starting to write the program, he told me not to use a third variable. I wrote and took a little bit time (around 2 mins) intentionally so that he shouldn't think that I memorized it.

Interviewer: Explain the working principle of LCD and LED screens.
Me: Explained a little bit and told I actually don't know and its very complex.

Interviewer: What element is used as liquid in LCD screens.
Me: Mercury. (Its actually Indium and not Mercury)

Interviewer: Tell the name of 5 CEO's of the top 5 IT companies in India.
Me: I can say 3. Vishal Sikka, Azim Premji, Cyrus Mistry.

Interviewer: No. Only 1 is right.

Interviewer: Are you ready to relocate?
Me: Yes sir.

Interviewer: Are you the only child?
Me: Yes.

Interviewer: Your father will leave you?
Me: I am from a joint family, sir. He won't feel alone.

Interviewer: Thank You. You can go now.
Me: Thank you sir.

Try to speak confidently. Your chance of selection will be very high if your communication skill is good. 239 got selected out of 305 who cleared the aptitude.

They don't even ask technical questions if your communication skill is good. Don't worry if you don't know the answer of any question. I answered many questions incorrectly but I got selected and now I am waiting for my offer letter.

Thank You.
