INFOSYS PATTERN & INTERVIEW - 16 JUL 2006
This is saurabh and I had appeared for the infosys apti. test on the 16th... frankly it was out of the blue that I got this call when I was least expecting i... anyways here's how it went....
I was initially a bit confused as to what would be the pattern of the paper because there were some rumors that the pattern might be changed....but as it turned out it was the same old pattern where u had to solve 10 puzzles in an hour....here are the puzzles that I remember.
8 out of the 10 questions were repeated.... i don properly remember them sorry.. but u'll find them in the previous papers.... i got 7or 8 right.... but frankly I don't understand their criteria for selecting candidates... friend of mine had more correct answers than me(I know coz the quests were repeated)... still he was rejected.... My suggestion please show the steps you do in as much detail as possible... infect I wrote my infy paper like I was writing my 12th std paper... explained each and every variable, step and answer.... and then there was the English section... which I think ppl tend to take less seriously... but my personal opinion is it is very important factor in deciding whether you make the cut or not.... so be CAREFUL and concentrate...its not very easy.
I had my interview on the 18th of july...since I had a friend who had his interview the day before I had some idea as to what the interview was like... as it turned out it was like any other infy interview..... only HR
It was a panel of two... a man and a woman....pretty calming faces.....
I was asked to take a seat....they asked me to clarify why my name was so long heh which I did.
They then started with the age old question 'TELL ME SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF' which frankly I had anticipated they would ask.... but did not prepare because I knew it wont help much because that is not what they are looking for...just be yourself.
Then it was a resume verification session if I can call it that....i was asked about everything I had mentioned in my resume... what kind of mimicry I do, how can I say I am adaptable, why do u say ur composed etc....all I did was to tell the truth....except when he asked me to name one non-fiction book I had read I said The Alchemist...which of course is not non-fiction.....but even after that blunder I was not tensed(or at least I did not show that I was)....
i gracefully accepted that I had made a mistake(there was no use arguing anyways).....
i was then asked as to whether I read news papers....I said yes....he then asked me to tell them what was today's headlines....i said I left early in the morning so couldn't read the newspapers....he asked yesterdays...which I told em...
i was asked about the major story that week...it was the bomb blasts in mumbai....i was asked to name some other important news in the week...i told them about the SC/ST bill that the mah. Govt passed opportunistically....then I told them about the infy. Quarter -1 results....the growth in revenues (I guess that got me some brownie points)....then came the part I dreaded the most....it was puzzle time....I was asked 2 puzzles....both of which I couldn't answer but did give them a direction as to how they could be solved....later I came to know the first one was from shakuntala devi.
How will u draw 2 squares and 4 right angled triangles using 8 lines----this one is there in shakuntala devi.
Gimme two factors of 1000000 which do not contain 0....i was baffled but kept my cool...tried one or two answers...but couldn't solve....later a guy told me the answer which unfortunately I don't remember.
But my conclusion is that once u clear the infosys aptitude test...its childs play to clear the interviews...all u have to do is be confident...don't ever show any stress whatsoever....i don't mean u don't be nervous....that u are bound to be... but just be confident....and yes....most important thing is ur communication skill and ur eye contact....and please don't bluff.
I got placed and will be joining on the 28th.
ALL THE BEST TO ALL OF YOU!!
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this site....u made my dream come true!
