Interview Experience of Emerson.
Hello friends, its pleasure for me to share my Interview experience about Emerson. My interview was about 20 minutes and I was asked approximately 12 questions. I'm trying to give a brief summary of interview as following,
We all undergone through an Aptitude test of 45 marks, one hour. All of us had good score in aptitude and all were eligible for interview. We were given the time of 10 minutes for break and the interview round started. There were 6 to 7 panels for interview and all interviews were going simultaneously. After Half hour, I was called for interview.
I knocked on the door,
May I come in sir?
Q- Please come in, (He offered me the chair). Thank you Sir.
Q- So, Suraj (He was taking a look through my aptitude paper, and my Resume), good score. You are from Nanded and your final project is this. You are (he was chattering himself).
Q- Introduce yourself in Brief.
A- Hello sir, my name is Suraj Tompe from Nanded. Completed my SSC from Kandhar with 92.30% and my HSC from Shahu college, Latur with 76.67%. Now, I belong to Branch of Instrumentation from SGGS Engineering Institute. My family consist of six members and brief intro to family background. Sir I would like to mention that, I'm university winner of drama competition. I have many prizes regarding to Nature Photography (Few of your outstanding Achievements). My area of interest are Process control, Field instrumentation and PLC-DCS.
Q- Very Good. Tell me something about your final year project.
A- I explained all in detail. Generally, it should contain (Name, Which hardware and software part you? Are implementing and what is main logical. Technique you are using. Application of Project/your role in Project).
Q- Nice. Do you know what is PID controller, what is their use?
A- Yes sir. These are the controllers used widely in industrial applications. According to our need we tune them and use according to our need.
Q- You just said tuning. What are the methods of tuning, do you know that?
A- Yes sir. There are various methods but two of them are majorly used. Ziglor Nicholas and Cohen "Coon tuning methods. In these methods (I just started and he interrupted me).
Q- Ok, ok. It seems you know that. Now, Tell me about P, PI and PID controllers.
A- (I had already prepared this questions very well, because it was asked many times before) Sure sir, if you allow I would like to explain the same with an example.
Q- Of course, you can. (I explained at my best. I'm giving a summary of my details as).
1) P action brings the process near to set point, but it gives an offset.
2) I action continuously varies the output as long as an error is present in process.
3) D action gives Robustness to process. It's used for anticipating action.
Q- (he was looking satisfied with my details). Yea, you are correct. What is Marshaling Cabinet?
A- Sir Marshaling Cabinet is the panel where the wires from field devices and control room are connected together and it give as a simple idea for fault debugging. It's very useful when we want to add new devices or we want to counter any problem in process plant.
Q- Ok. You have used PLC in your project. How many rungs are there in your project?
A- (we have completed ladders but I was not sure how many rungs) Sir, they are about 14.
Q-Just 14?
A- Actually, sir we have completed 60% part of our project and some modifications are yet to be implemented. So, there may be some changes in regarding to number of rungs.
Q- Oh. It is so. Then when you are supposed to complete that as per the rules?
A- Sir the final evaluation of project is carried out at the end of semester. By that time we are supposed to finalize it.
Q- Can you draw P and ID diagram of any simple loop?
A- Yes sir. (I Draw the level control loop P and ID diagram).
Q- Good. Here you shown control valve as final control element. Can you talk two minutes on control valve?
A- Sure sir. My answer was having main points as:
1)Main two parts of control valve- valve body and actuators.
2) Few common used types "globe valve, niddle v, ball we, butterfly, etc.
3) Characteristics.
4) Control valve problems- cavitation and flushing.
Q-Very good Suraj. Now, Suraj do you we use 4 to 20 mA current in various applications in industry. Its used anywhere in process applications. Do you have any idea why we use 4 to 20 mA. We can also use other instead of this.
A- (I paused for some moment) Sir, there are three main reasons for this. First reason is, the concept of live zero and dead zero, when signal is present.
Q- That I know, next?
A- Sir, it offers a good linearity in between 4 to 20 mA.
Q- Nice and the third one. ?
A- Sir, in electronic applications, 250 ohm resistor is considered as standard resistance for application. When we multiply 250*4 it gives 1V and when we multiply 250 *20 it gives 5V. So for 4 to 20 mA, we are getting 1 to 5V.
Q- Very good suraj. Do you know any product of Emerson?
A- Sir there is a DCS of Emerson, Delta-V (gave a short info about delta v).
Q-yes, anything else?
A- (Paused for some moment) Sorry sir, am unaware of that.
Q- Ok suraj. No problem.
(The interview ends here. There are also some small questions which occurred with my previous answer. Then he asked some formal question about family, hobby, etc.,).
Finally, they selected 10 out of 34 for HR round. HR round was just formality. All of 10 were selected finally.
To face any interview, get the information of that company "what is product, what they expect from us, go through company profile on net. Ask about paper pattern to your friends of other college, if such kind of placement took there. Be clear with basic instrumentation; mention only those points in your resume which you are good in. Answer properly if you know, if you don't know then don't cheat, just accept sincerely.
Thank you,
Suraj M Tompe.
