Cognizant Interview Experience - KIIT University, Bhubaneswar 14.9.18 - 16.9.18

Posted By : Mayukh Roy Rating : +154, -4
I'm from Electronics and Telecommunication. Cognizant was the first company among the Day-1 sharing companies to visit our campus. This time they allowed the students of CS/IT/ETC/EE/EEE/E&I branches in their recruitment drive. The online test was scheduled on 14th September and it was conducted by Aspiring Minds.

The test pattern was the general AMCAT pattern:

Quantitative,Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability ,apart from these three one more additional Section was AUTOMATA FIX which is the coding round(2 ques. in 30 mins).

Regarding the aptitude part, IndiaBix is more than enough and for coding one can refer to AMCAT coding questions available on websites like FacePrep and Prepinsta because most of the times AMCAT coding questions get repeated ,at least it happened with me and many of my friends too. For clearing the basic concepts in C/C++ one can refer to the videos of Saurabh Shukla and his website

Around 1900 students appeared in the online test and out of them around 730 got selected for the Interview and luckily I was one among them. The interview consisted of 2 rounds-Technical and HR.

My interview slot was scheduled on 15th September at 9:00 am. I was finally called for my TR at 2:00 pm and here it goes:

Interviewer: So Mayukh, why KIIT?
Me: I told him all the things that I've learnt at KIIT and what major role it has played in my life.

Interviewer: What are your hobbies?
Me: Told.

Interviewer: Why do you want to switch from core to an IT industry?
Me: To this I told that "Sir,I don't consider Electronics is any where separable from IT. In Electronics we work with softwares like Matlab, Pspice, Xilinx, Vivado etc which are based on programming itself. So,Sir I don't think that I'm switching to any different domain."

Interviewer: What is Modulation and Demodulation?
Me: Told.

Interviewer: What is an Oscillator?
Me: Told.

Interviewer: What Sampling?
Me: Told.

Interviewer: What is Spanning tree?
Me: Sorry sir, I don't remember.

Interviewer: What is the difference between linked list and array?
Me: Told.

Interviewer: What is  Stack and Queue and give their real life example?
Me: Told.

Interviewer: What  is hash table?
Me: Sorry, Sir I don't remember.

Interviewer: Write a C program to print the following pattern?
       * * *
  *  *  *  *  *
Me: Wrote and explained the logic.

Interviewer: Write a C program to to print the series: 6,7,7,8,8,9,9,10.....
Me: Wrote and explained the logic.

Interviewer: Tell me about your B.Tech Project?
Me: Told and explained him properly.

Interviewer: One last question,do you have idea of any of these new era technologies?
Me: Told about Machine Learning.

Interviewer: Okay, Mayukh thank you, you can wait for your results.

After 15 min the Technical rounds results were declared and I was shortlisted for HR round. On that day around 500 students gave their TR and out of them around 120 were selected for HR , so TR was the main elimination round.

My HR interview was scheduled at 4:30 pm and here it goes:

HR: Mayukh, tell me about your family background.
Me: Told.

HR: Why do you want to switch from Electronics to IT?
Me: Told.

HR: Why Cognizant?
Me: Told.

HR: Well Mayukh, frankly speaking, I'm working here since 5-6 years and I feel that there is no opportunities for freshers and I'm kind of sure that you will get frustrated only within 3 months after your joining. So, what is you opinion?
Me: Sir, I think that I'm a fresher and for me learning the new things will have utmost importance. Till now, we were  just subjected to a prescribed syllabus which we prepared one night before the exam and vomitted  on the next day. So, till now we hardly know that which is the best place for us to fit in . I feel that opening ourselves for all the avenues would be a much better option and in those 3 months I" ll be just completing my training at your company, So I don't think that I'll be in a stage to judge anything at that moment.

HR: Are you ready to work in shifts and do you have any relocation problem?
Me: Flexible with timings and no relocation problem.

HR: So, Mayukh this an agreement form, read this and if you are comfortable with it then sign on it.

I read and signed it.

The rest 230 students were interviewed on 16th September.

The final result was declared on 30th September and I got selected.

Around 200 students got placed at Cognizant from our college.

So, I would like to thank IndiaBix for helping me to clear the written exams of companies like: GyanSys,L&T Technology Services,TCS, CTS and Accenture.

I will say only one thing that Placement is directly proportional to flexible mind as told by one of my close friend Sambhrant who is placed at Bosch. Yes, at times we panic and sometimes even feel depressed after facing numerous rejections but the fact is "Success without failure is itself a failure". So, the only thing that is required throughout the process is  ultimate calmness and never doubt yourself.

So, that's it and I hope that this post gonna help many of you who aspire to get placed at Cognizant.

Thank You.
