Cognizant Interview Experience - 11 Sept 2016 , Bhopal (L.N.C.T)
Cognizant recruits in 3 rounds -
1. Written (online)
2. Technical interview
==> 1st round (online test):
Questions are simple but time management is the key, I'm sure everyone one can solve the problem of the question arises when you have to do it in limited time.
Online round is similar to CCSP pattern, if you have given it will be very helpful for you to understand the overall procedure, our college conducted CCSP before campus so that helped a lot, though I was not able to clear CCSP, but that gave me the precise knowledge about my strong areas and weak one as well.
Online test includes small rounds of 10-20 min after every round there was a optional break of 1 min. Basically, question were asked from-
- Quant (mainly percentage, time and work, profit and loss, SI...). Quant is very easy but only problem 10 min max for this round around 8 -10 questions are there usually.
- Logical reasoning (scoring section do practice it).
- Paragraph (scoring round, don't read the whole paragraph straight away, first read the questions then try to find it in paragraph).
As I am writing this after 5 months hence placement so I am not able to recollect exactly what was asked but more or less this is what is usually asked.
Note: You can get specifics of the online round from others post as well, so I would like to tell you more about the approach for this round:
* give mock test
* give mock test
* give mock test
==> 2nd round (TI):
Well, our interviews started very late, usually, all the Non-CS/IT branch are interviewed first, rejection rate is quite high here (no one expects you to be a good coder they just check your IQ, will ask you simple questions, and some simple codes).
Main motivation for my post is because of what happed next.
I am a CS student so I knew how to code, but I had very little knowledge about core subjects such as Data Structure, OS, etc.
Our turn was about to come and adrenaline rush started, we were seated in a room, volunteers were calling the students as their turn came.
That room was very chaotic, some students were studying OS, some studying networking, some laughing (maybe to hide their tension), some people coming back to the room after getting rejected, some after getting selected for HR round, people rushing to them to know what was asked and rushing to their notes and books, and net for possible solutions. Someone said interviewers are asking Data Structure and OS.
I was quite nervous at that time and I said to myself " tumse na ho payega ", I had no idea what to do, so I started to revise what I already knew and I thought " to hell with what is being asked to others I'll revise only those things that I have done " and after revising closed the books started talking, moving here and there, I was quite convinced that I am not gone get selected, convinced to the point that my nervousness evaporated and then came the call for us, I rushed to collect my bag, my notes were not there so searched for it, but by that time everyone had gone, I ran towards the line but due to some miss understanding I reached the wrong panel and was asked to come later. My interview had not even started and these kinds of things were happening to me.
Waited for sometimes, again I was called this time one of the TNP Dept sir came, he said "beta kahan thai, interviewer ko starting mai hi naraz nahi kartai, jao ab jaldi ".
I was sitting outside the room, I was supposed to go next, some people still worried studying something, I was singing song in my head (if you have messed up your interview before starting and you have limited knowledge then there is nothing more left to do), finally the call came, stood up to enter the room, but again got interrupted, one of the mam stopped me pointing to my shirt that was not properly tucked, adjusted it (shit man), entered the room with big smile with interviewer staring right into my eyes he looked emotionless.
I: (searched my profile on the desk....) where were you yr, your turn had already come.
Me: (with a smiling face) sorry actually there was a miss understanding one of the volunteer asked me to follow me so I "politely" followed him, but then I came to know that I was in the wrong panel.
I: Are you always this much polite?
Me: Yes sir : )
I: I don't think so boys are usually salman khan fans, they like action blah blah ......
Me: I don't like Salman sir, my fav. is Nawazuddin and Amir (then went on to explain my choice....)
I: You seem like a philosophical person, do want to make any change in our society?
Me: Yes sir, I would like to change our education system ..... from here I went to speak continuously for 30 mins, finally, in the end, he smiled a little.
I: Ok Himanshu, wap for Fibonacci and Palindrome.
Me: (I had to hide my emotions, I was laughing in my head) wrote the code for both of them.
I: Ok you may go.
After "10-15 sec" a volunteer came out, (I was standing outside talking to my friends waiting for their turn).
Said Himanshu Chouhan, I waved my hand. And then he spoke the magical words.
"SELECTED FOR HR ROUND"
Those were the best words I ever heard and the best moment of my life. After that, cleared the HR round as well, though I also messed up in HR a bit: (I think, I will skip it this post is already too long).
NOTE: I think confidence is the main thing and most importantly it is you who decide what will ask in your interview, you are the driver of your interview.
Best of luck to all.
All glories to almighty! Hare Krishna.
