Cognizant Technology Solutions Interview Experience - Future Institute of Engg. and Management, Kolkata, 11/09/2015 & 12/09/2015
I am sharing my experience of Cognizant on campus drive at Future Institute of Engineering and Management on 11/09/15 and 12/09/15. It was a 2 day process. On day 1 we had only the aptitude exam and on day 2 there was Technical interview and HR interview.
On 11/09/15 we were to report to college at 8.30 am. At around 9.30 am CTS gave their ppt and after that we were divided into to two batches for the aptitude round. Now this year the pattern was not same as like previous years. There were two sections:
1) Logical Section - questions are more from image analysis, statement conclusion, direction sense, puzzles. (only two questions came from quantitative part).
2) English Section - questions are from error detection, rearrangement and Reading Comprehension (2-comprehension and 4 question for each comp).
If you are moderate in English then you can easily clear the English section, and for the logical section 1 month practice from the R. S. Aggarwal books along with Indiabix will be well enough.
At around 6 pm the results of the aptitude round was announced, I was selected and out of 490 students 240 were selected for the technical round on the next day. After that there was a registration process for the students who were selected.
We were to report to college at 9.30 for the technical round. I had to wait till 12.30 and after that my chance came. I was little nervous as it was my first interview. My technical interview went like this.
(M - Me; I - Interviewer).
M: Good afternoon Sir.
I: Good afternoon, Please have a sit (I sat). Tell me about yourself in details and also mention your strengths and weakness.
I : So from which branch of Engineering You are?
M : Sir I am from Electrical Engineering Background.
I: Why you want to join IT?
M : told (I gave my own set of reasons and if you are from non-IT background then it is a common question).
I: What was your rank in JEE?
M: Sir my rank was 18383.
I : Why so poor?
M: I told honestly that my preparation was not good and I was little bit overconfident with myself and that affected my performance.
I : Ok ok, Can you tell me how zener diode works?
M: I explained him as much as I remember.
I : Ok so what is your favourite subject?
M: I told Sir Machine is my favourite among my departmental subjects but all over Microprocessor 8085 is my favourite. (I am confident with this two subjects so I told him that and if you are not confident in any subject then do not tell that only to impress the interviewer).
I : Can you draw the architecture of 8085 and explain how it works.
M: I drew the architecture and explained him clearly.
I : Do you know what is Instruction pipelining?
I : What is the degree of Pipelining?
M: I did not know this answer so I told him that sir sorry but I do not know this.
I : So you have written C in your CV. Do you know C?
M: I told that confidently yes sir I know the basics of C.
I : What is a pointer?
He gave me a simple program with pointer and asked what will be the output.
M: I gave the answer and explained him the logic.
I : Write the instruction for dynamic memory allocation.
M: Written and explained.
I : Ok, tell the operating principle of a transformer.
I : Tell me why we use transformers.
M: I told to step up and to step down the voltage keeping frequency same.
I: How we can step up and step down the voltage?
I : Ok I am finished with my side do you have any questions for me?
M: I asked him one questions regarding in which areas I need to improve.
I: Nice talking with you have a good day, Thank you.
M: Thank you sir.
Ok now for the technical round you need to prepare your core subjects well and along with that C or Java and be confident at your favourite subjects. For the technical round you need a little bit luck also.
After 1 hour the results of the technical round was out and I got selected for HR. Out of 240 students 122 cleared the technical round. In HR simple questions were asked like tell me about yourself, do you want to relocate or not, tell me about your project, how it's different from other projects etc. My chance came at around 4 pm for the HR round.
M: Good afternoon mam.
I : Good evening.
M: Sorry ma'am good evening.
I : (Smiled) Have a sit. Then she asked me to tell me about my self with in details.
M: I told, but as my communication skill is not so good so while telling sometime I was.
Repeating my words.
I : Do you know your communication skills are not very good.
M: I told yes mam I know and I am working on it.
I : What initiatives you have taken to improve your communication skills?
M: I told her honestly about the initiatives that I have taken.
I : If today I select you tell me how you are going to work on your communication?
M: I told and tried to tell some good steps that I will be following.
I : Tell me about your project and how its different from other projects?
M: I explained.
Then she gave me a paper to sign and told me to work more on my communication.
I : Ok, thank you.
M: Thank you mam.
I was last in my panel and I was little bit disappointed about my performance in HR round.
Results were announced on 21/09/2015 along with the results of Wipro Technologies and I was selected in both.
If you can clear the Technical round then you are 90% sure to get the job. Out of 122 who cleared the technical round 110 were selected in HR. Always be honest with your answer, keep a smile on your face and be confident.
Thanks to Indiabix.
Hope this will help you.
