Hello everyone. This is Pooja and today I am going to share my interview experience with cognizant.
So let me start from the very beginning. I gave my AMCAT exam three to four months back, it took 3-4 months to get shortlisted for the interviews.

I got shortlisted in NTT Data first when I was preparing hard for that I got interview call letter from cognizant that night before the NTT Data exam. Getting into cognizant is like a dream for me and the moment I got the call letter I thought to give my 110% for the interview.

I dropped giving interview for NTT Data and I prepared hard for cognizant as it was the very next day. That was my very first interview but people around me who came for the interview along with me are work experienced or at-least had interview experience like 10, 20, 28 OMG. They've attended allot of interviews and mine was very first interview I went too nervous and honestly I only got a day to prepare all the concepts.

So I wasn't confident regarding my preparation too. We were taken to a Huge room crowded with the jobless people like me. Most of them are from non-I. T background and they're fine with programming basics and I was very very nervous as I am from IT background. There was allot of time available for us we were given token numbers and we were asked to wait till our number comes. They were calling 10 members at once. I tried opening my books and study but I dint feel like studying as the environment was very suffocating.

After getting introduced to the people I was sure that I am going to get rejected. Then my token number was called along with other 9 members we were taken inside and asked to wait till our name was called. At the time of my waiting for the interview they were many interviews going on in the cubicles infront of us, some were yelling voices like "you need to do your engineering again", "cant you code a simple logic?" etc etc.

Then I only wished the panel which I get the interviewer hopefully must not tear my resume on my face and ask me to get out of his cubicle (LOL) but yes I was actually hoping only that. Between all these pessimistic thoughts my name was called.

They showed me a cabin to enter, There was the interviewer and at that moment all the experiences I read in IndiaBix was going through my mind. I greeted him he asked me to take the seat. Now the conversation went on like this :

I : Good Afternoon Sir.

TR : Good afternoon : ) please take your seat.

He glanced my resume and asked about my school and where is it. It was like trying to comfort me with the easy stuff but inside my head I was preparing for the further hurdles. Then he asked about my hobbies and I said writing journal and then his questions were increasing from my answers. Then.

TR: Okay Miss Pooja let me check your technical skills too.

I knew it.
I: Sure sir.

TR : Why is software testing used.
I : To detect bugs in our source code and make our code much better (I dunno whether I was right or not but I was confident with my answer).

TR: Can you explain basics concepts of OOP.
Before I answered he asked me to explain about inheritance.
I : Explained and said they're 5 types of it.

TR : Can you name them?
I : Named and even explained.

TR: Write code for any sorting algorithm in java.
I : Sir can I write it in C?

TR : Hesitated a little but said okay carry on.
I : Wrote but I was pretty sure they're many mistakes in that. I wrote bubble sort.

In that nervousness I was hardly able to write. But I managed somehow and I gave him the paper.

TR: He saw the code and said "okay Pooja, thank you for your time. ".
I : Sir am I allowed to ask a question.

TR: Yes.
I : This is the very first interview can I know my performance.

TR : Well. You must work on your basics and unless you feel this is a crap you dint even find time to brush up your concepts.
(I dint expect that feedback).

I : Sir, can I say something. ? I got this interview call letter hardly a day back and I tried to grab as much knowledge as I can. And to be honest I gave the best of my knowledge sir. And this opportunity can never be a crap for me or anyone who is waiting for their turn to come and this is not an excuse sir I just wanted to explain for the term "CRAP" that's all. Thank You sir and walked out.

(as I dint sleep the whole night preparing for the interview and it truly means allot to me and hearing the word crap I thought I need to justify for that).

Then I left the cabin. Formality, I was asked to wait for 5 mins outside. I was very sure that I'll get rejected but SURPRISINGLY I got selected for HR. They were a very few with me and I was one among them I couldn't believe the fact that my first interview got successful. Then I was asked to wait till my name comes they were hardly 5 candidates waiting. Then my name was called. I went into the HR cabin then the conversation went on like this.

HR : Okay miss Pooja. Can I know about yourself.
I : Sure sir. I introduced myself.

HR asked loads of questions on my journal : P.
HR : Let me test your technical skills.
I : Sure sir.

HR : Name any 5 OS.
I : Named.

HR : Explain your main project.
I : I explained him my project gave real time examples using that.

HR : What is your role in the project.
I : Developing side sir but to be honest it was done under the guidance sir. I know only till the college level. Till now I dint develop any code or I dint do any project individually.

HR : Okay did you ever go out of A.P?
I : No sir.

HR : Then if you feel home sickness then?
I : M sure I'll be missing my family but I can handle it: ).

H. R: Are you fine with relocation?
I: Yes sir.

HR : Yes? sure?
I : Confident yes sir.
(no other option left so it's obvious).

HR: Okay.
Then he asked me to sign a form. I signed it blindly.

HR : You'll not even have a look before signing?
I : I am sorry sir, I thought this is one of the formality so I dint see it.

HR : Read what's there.
Its like an agreement that we are accepting that we are flexible for any location, shifts and technology.
I : Sir does it states that I got selected?

HR : I dint say you that.
I : Okay. Then when will I get confirmed about it?

HR : We will get back to you soon.
I: Sir this is my very first interview. How was my performance?

HR : It was cool. You don't have to worry: ).
I : Thank you sir: ).

And after 6 working days I got the offer letter and that is the most memorable day of my life 26th march 2015: ) within 2 days I got the on boarding mail too. Waiting for my Date of Joining.

I want to thank IndiaBix for this because the first step of my preparation started by reviewing all the experiences posted here. I am sorry for such a long note and communication and honesty plays the key role.

ALL THE BEST keep smiling: ).
