Cognizant Technology Solutions Interview Experience - JIIT, Noida
Our online test was conducted by Aspiring minds (AMCAT) and CTS allowed 60% throughout (X, XII, B-Tech) and 2 backlogs so the number of students appeared would definitely increase. There were about 1700-2000 students appears I guess and 1100 was selected for TI and at last 700 was selected finally.
First CTS is definitely a wonderful company and the person who gave the Speech prior to the placement -Mr. Rahul. (I don't Know full name) Director of Consulting for Middle East and South pacific made it more adamant.
Now, Online test: Online test would be a piece of cake if you have good speed. For example we have to do 14 aptitude in 14 minutes, 16 LR in 16 min and 25 English in 20 Minutes. So my online test was all right because I left 4 Aptitude question because I didn't look at the clock running but I nailed LR afterwards and I was sure that all LR would be correct but I still that 4 aptitude question left bugging me up. But when the result was declared my name was there so didn't sleep that night prepared my projects and C, C++, Java, SQL question thoroughly and Then we have to report at 8 am with all our documents.
My TI was in second batch & have to wait till 11 am for my turn. When my name was called I followed the guy and he lead me to Panel-21 and there was a middle age guy talking to some Aspiring mind guy. And told me to wait outside. I waited for about 10 minute standing and my heart was pounding but guy didn't call even after that aspiring mind guy left. So I took permission to enter the room with my finger crossed (expecting he would not get frenzy because he told me to wait but it was already 15 minutes). So I Greeted him he nodded and told me to sit down.
I: A very Good Morning Sir!
Sir: Hmm. So tell me about about yourself.
I: Told my name, education, qualification, family. But I suggest you should also tell a little bit about your objective and why you are perfect for this job. (I didn't tell this).
Sir: He heard but he was busy reading my resume. So he asked you did mention your Project management project so what did you do in this project and how achieve the target.
I: Told but I forgot to explain him to porter's five model, DMAIC model.
Sir: okay. But how do you you can manage or achieve something with these models.
I: Told. Something something.
Sir: okay. You are doing your B-Tech in ECE right now tell me what is Electronics.
Sir: okay. Commuication?
Sir: in resume it says you know SQL (prior experience) UNIX (prior experience) but you are from ECE how can you know all this. ,
I: told sir I our curriculum we have SQL and Unix as our subject for a semester Just brief Intro and lab experience and told him about prior experience means I have no other experience other than academics and lab and have n't done any solo project on these.
Sir: He made a face like. He didn't believe me why you people have SQL and UNIX. So he said Fine. Tell me what is DDL.
I: Told with example.
Sir: What is difference b/w Unix and Linux. ?
I: Said some jargon but told at last. And gave an example like SOLARIS and MAC OS/Window are UNIX based System and UBUNTU, FEDORA are LINUX.
Sir: Again he didn't believe MAC OS /Window is Unix based.
I: Assured him tell him in confidence I read it other night on WIKIpedia.
Sir: But still he said I don't know are you sure?
I: Yes sir Definitely.
Sir: Okay you have any experience with LINUX.
I: Yes sir m using UBUNTU for year and a half now and one of my project is also on LinuX System with MATLAB platform.
Sir: Hmm. Now what is TDMA, CDMA FDMA?
Sir: He gave me a sequence of 6 numbers and told me to find the third largest.
I: Explained the concept first and then pseudo code and finally code. He correct me few time in between and told me just explain the logic if you are not comfortable.
Sir: Okay now he gave me puzzle. There is mountain and two clock one is on the peak and one at the bottom and you have a horse. You have to synchronize these two clock as they are not correct.
I: Tried to do something something but he was not satisfied. I tried 2-3 approaches but didn't give up.
Sir: Okay. It's all right. Are you fine with relocation and do have any work preferences. ?
I: No sir, I perfectly fine with relocation.
Sir: So you can do any type of work, programming, analyst etc.
I: Yes sir.
Sir : Are you sure?
I: Yes sir m positive.
Sir: Okay thank you, you may leave.
I: Thank you sir.
After 10-20 minutes a guy came and told me you can go home you are not up for second round.
A word of advise guys: Interviews are perfectly random they only check your confidence and they have nothing to do with your technical Knowledge project and whatever. There were so many guys I know, went to the HR round they didn't even know how to even Diagnose a PC/laptop. And there are so many guys who told us there TI was completely a mess but still up for HR.
I didn't Understand that but it really break up your Confidence and when you see your parents hopeful face and tell them you are not selected. You'l b a walking corp for some time. But then I remember what my Friend once said "this world will try to break you, but you'll not break, not kneel even not bow your head down". Just walk with dreams in your eyes and gain experience from each and every failure and charge your enthusiasm with utter confidence with every Success. But never become complacent or pessimist.
All the best. Guys. Prepare well and Assail the target. There is no end to experience and no experience is good or bad.
