Friends,

I'm Vinoth Babu from Madurai. I completed my B-Tech (Mechanical Engg) at Kalasalingam University in 2013. I applied for the post "Programmer Analyst Trainee" through AMCAT and I got the Hall ticket to appear for CTS on line Aptitude exam at SMK Fomra Institute of Technology, Chennai. It was conducted on 5th of April, 2014.

The Aptitude test consists of 3 sections:

1. English Proficiency- 25 Q/A = 25 min.
2. Quantitative Aptitude- 16 Q/A = 16 min.
3. Reasoning - 14 Q/A = 14 min.

Mentioned below are the topics to clear this exam:

English:

* Comprehension.
* Synonyms.
* Fill in the blanks.
* Sentence correction.
* Find the error in a given sentence.
* Ordering of Sentences.

Prepare from Indiabix "Verbal Ability" module & try to solve previous year question paper, it would be very easy to clear this section.

Quantitative Aptitude:

* L.C.M & G.C.D.
* Divisibility.
* Time & Work.
* Profit & Loss.
* Percentages.
* Permutation & Combination.
* Probability.
* Problems on Trains.
* Average.
* Simple Interest & Compound Interest.

The key to clear aptitude section is to memorize the important formulas of each topic thoroughly, then try to solve as many questions as you want to. You'll get the Confidence gradually, once you start to solve problems on a daily basis.

Reasoning:

* Blood Relations.
* Directional Sense.
* Syllogism.
* Data Sufficiency.
* Arguments & Statements.
* Coding pattern.
* Logical word sequence.

Prepare from R. S. Aggarwal "Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning"Book, its more than enough.

Overall the test lasted for only 55 minutes and you have to answer 55 questions.

I hope one should understand the importance of time management to clear this exam.

The results were published after 5 days & we were asked to appear for Technical and HR interview on April 13th, 2014.

Technical Interview Experience:

My reporting time in the interview call letter was 10.00 AM yet I was called for tech interview at 1.00 PM only, due to many number of students. The interviewer was a kind & humble man, asked me to explain about my project first. Then he asked me questions like,

# Why mechanical to software field?

# Can you explain me about SDLC ?

# Tell me about your family?

# Are you familiar in any Programming language?

# Have you done any Certification courses before?

# Write a program and find the output.

I told him that I'm only good in C programming as I was a non-IT student. He then asked me how you'll be able to survive in the IT field without having knowledge in the technology tracks I.E: Java, Dot Net etc.

I said, I have a basic understanding of the concepts in computer programming & once I get this job, I'll work hard to learn the necessary to upgrade my technical skills.

He smiled at me and asked "Can you write a simple C-program to add two values and multiply them by 60"? I was relieved that I got such an easy program to solve and I readily said ok, completed it. After a couple of minutes, he asked me"Do you have any questions?" and I started a chit chat alike conversations for sometime.

Finally I greeted him "Thank you" and got back to the waiting room. After about 20 minutes, I was then called for HR Interview. That moment was exciting.

HR INTERVIEW:

The easiest of all was the HR Interview. "Tell me about yourself ?".

1. Why Cognizant?

2. What do you know about Cognizant?

3. Are you ready to relocate?

4. Does it matter even if it is night shift?

5. Describe your personality?

In just 2 minutes, the HR Interview was over!

Once you have cleared the technical round, you can be 95% sure that you've got the job. You just have to say "I'm flexible, I adapt well to situations & I'm ready to relocate". That's it, HR interview was over. At last they verified my original certificates and said you'll receive a mail after a few days.

On 15th April, I got a mail from cognizant that I was selected & the date of joining would be announced within a couple of weeks. It was a very pleasing moment to finally land a job after 1 year of job hunting! Thank God!

To all the students who are going to appear for any job recruitment process, remember these guidelines:

1. Be thorough with your resume, mainly your project work.
2. Maintain eye contact and have a smiling face.
3. The interviewer must be impressed by your outlook towards life or work.
4. Always tell the true & be prepared to face the consequences.
5. Should be aware of the skills that are required for the job.
6. Act like I don't care even if I win or lose.

There might be 1000 students or even 1500 students for any recruitment process. You might get nervous all of a sudden. Try and recollect all the positive aspects about you.

Definitely everyone will get placed in a good company, no matter what this is not Rocket Science just apply Common sense.

God Bless you All.

Regards,
Vinoth Babu.
