Cognizant interview pattern November 8th to 10th, Coimbatore zone.

Dear friends,

Am Vaisakh G Sisupal from CMS college of engineering, Namakkal.

Let me share my experiences with you. I attended the cognizant off campus drive with a lot of expectations as I found it a golden opportunity to get enrolled it to a company like cognizant as the chances like this are very rare for students studying in an developing self financing colleges in Tamil Nadu.

I found a student ocean there from almost 140 colleges under Anna university, Coimbatore zone. I realized that both preparation and somewhat luck is also needed here. Any way the interview team planned it very efficiently so there was no delay for anything and everything got kick started in time.

First day we need to attend 2 rounds group discussion and aptitude test. Simultaneously a lot for group discussions were running and I was asked to enter 18th hall. There we found orderly arranged chairs and after a short warm up session they gave the topic and two minutes preparation time. Later ma friends told me that in some other halls students were allowed to talk about a topic of their interest.

Whatever they figured out those who are confident in the way they expressed their views. Within two minutes after the session they informed the names of short listed students. Later a big list including ma name was called and asked to move to a computer lab for online exam.

The exam consists of two sessions analytical/reasoning and verbal ability. Former consists of 30 qs and 30 min time and latter 25 qs in 30 min. Only after click on next button the next q will be displayed. Time is the main problem and after 30 min that window will be closed and next session will be displayed, doesn't matter whether we completed the initial session or not.

So consider time problem. In verbal there were about 4 to 5 passages and related qs. Reading all that itself will eat time. So choose the best method of answering. The exam is very simple but time is the main villain I repeat. The results of the exam was published at night around 8 pm and luckily I was in.

For the technical interview I was very nervous, don't know what will be my fate. As as ECE student my exposure towards computer programs are very less so I concentrated more on the basics of c++ language. The next day on interview hall I found a very handsome gentle man with a genuine smile and really I forget about my nervousness. I feel free and session was as follows.

First I was asked to introduce myself and I did it in a normal way including my short term and long term goal. As I have written my area of interest as digital communication and digital electronics, he asked a lot of questions related to it and all touching the base of the subjects. Most questions I answered and For 2-3 I told him sorry sir I don't know the answer. But he welcomed it with spirit and said ok Vaisakh it is not a problem.

After that he asked me about computer programming and I explained to him where actually I am on that field. There wasn't any change in his attitude and he accepted that too with correct spirit. But he asked me to write a program and I said sorry sir and then he told me to explain the logic to write it.

Luckily I was able to answer it (only because of my last night sleep less preparation) then some basics questions including what is data structure, examples call by reference, value bla bla bla. Then I was asked to explain my final year projects and something related to what I have written in my resume and I explained it all and I feel relaxed in all sense.

Then he asked me why should I hire you and for that I said a very genuine answer from my life experiences. The reply was Vaisakh I like your slang. Both of us exchanged a smile and then he asked whether I have any qs for him, I shoot 2 qs and I got simple answers. I really enjoyed that 30 mins sessions and I was somewhat confident but the number of students there made me nervous again.

After some time I was told that I have one more round, the HR. Hearing that happiness flushed in to my mind and HR was so simple not so supportive as my technical interviewer. About cognizant I was asked to speak and I did in a confident manner and then about my short term and long term goals in cognizant. I was asked whether I have any problem with changing environment and duty shifts. With all confident I said no and explained why. He was pleased with that. Then asked about my hobbies and extra languages I know. Thanks for my tamil friends and hindi school teachers. There was a smile on the HR and I said myself I have done it. There also I asked him a q and I got a good answer.

Outside the room I heard someone said go home with happiness. But my inner feeling was different, a mixed one and finally after one day I got a call from my friend- congrats da you are in the final list.
