In compression, brittle failure plane will be oblique since failure due shear, and in case tension test brittle material failure plane will be right angle to the axis.

Plane in any direction except 90 and 0 degree is called oblique plane example we find the stress at 32-degree in the plane, then the stress is called oblique stress.

Every brittle material is in compression test fail at the oblique plan, but not at an angle of 45 degrees.
