Proof resilience is related to toughness. It is predicted by area of whole stress strain curve.

Why not option D?

Please tell anyone how measure the strain energy in a spring?

The energy stored in a body within elastic limit.

Strain energy is energy absorbed by member when work done by load deforms that member. It may be elastic or more than that. So energy absorbed by a member within elastic region is called resilience.

When specimen is elongated within elastic limits, it can store maximum energy. But beyond elastic limit where specimen tends to permanent deformation, energy stored will always be less than that within elastic limits.

How can a material store energy when it is about to break i.e. its neck? It has no more energy, totally weak. Hence 'within elastic limit'.

When a body is strained (loaded) the energy stored in the body with in the elastic limit is called strain energy.

But when the energy stored in the body up to the breaking of the specimen is called toughness. (i.e under the stress-strain curve).

HOOKS LAW said that stress is directly proportional to strain with in the elastic limit. So we have to consider the strain energy up to the elastic limit.

Obviously it's energy stored within elastic limit.

It is the energy stored within elastic limit.

Strain may be define the ratio original dimension and change of dimension is called strain.
