Logical Reasoning - Statement and Conclusion - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Statement and Conclusion - Section 1 (Q.No. 15)
Directions to Solve

In each question below is given a statement followed by two conclusions numbered I and II. You have to assume everything in the statement to be true, then consider the two conclusions together and decide which of them logically follows beyond a reasonable doubt from the information given in the statement.

Give answer:

  • (A) If only conclusion I follows
  • (B) If only conclusion II follows
  • (C) If either I or II follows
  • (D) If neither I nor II follows and
  • (E) If both I and II follow.

Statements: National Aluminium Company has moved India from a position of shortage to self-sufficiency in the metal.

Conclusions:

  1. Previously, India had to import aluminium.
  2. With this speed, it can soon become a foreign exchange earner.
Only conclusion I follows
Only conclusion II follows
Either I or II follows
Neither I nor II follows
Both I and II follow
Answer: Option
Explanation:
According to the statement, National Aluminium Company has moved India from a position of shortage in the past to self-sufficiency in the present. This means that previously, India had to import aluminium. So, I follows. Also, it can be deduced that if production increases at the same rate, India can export it in future. So, II also follows.

I think only 1 is correct because if we take 2 correct it going be an assumption, not a conclusion.

A shortage is mentioned and no where it is mentioned we arranged for the shortage, and also (II) does not follow as it is just an assumption and nowhere the rate of production is mentioned.

Correct me, if I am wrong.

Both conclusions are indeed assumptions based on the given statement.

The statement does not explicitly mention either of these conclusions. Therefore, the accurate answer is;

Neither I nor II follows.

According to me, option D, Neither I nor II follows, should be the correct answer.

The claim that India can "soon become a foreign exchange earner" is speculative and cannot be definitively concluded from the given information.

Also, previously India had to import aluminium cannot be the only reason for the position of shortage in India, and cannot be deduced from the statement alone without additional details.
