Because desert, which is mainly made from sand, becomes too hot during day time and losses its heat rapidly during night, but in case of water bodies this process is slow that's why climate remains good.

Also, why is too hot during a day time in hot desert area with a temperature of about 40 degree centigrade while night are cold with a low temperature of about 4 degrees centigrade, briefly explain why so?
