Earth rotates from west to east and with respect to the earth we assume the stars move opposite of the earth (east to west).

Take an example of a person(A) in rest if there is another person(B) in a train, B will observe that A is moving in backward direction, however it is the train which is moving in forward direction, same will be the case of this question.

This is the principle of Frame of Reference.

Retrograde motion is the apparent motion of a planet to move in a direction opposite to that of other bodies within its system, as observed from a particular vantage point. The stars rise in the east and set in the west as a result of the earth's rotation on its axis.

Sun is appears to move from east to west but it doesn't move because it is also a star.

So stars are appear to move from east to west.

The stars move in the opposite direction of earth. So the stars are moved west to east.

Sun is also a star and in general fact we say that sun rise from east and set from west but actually sun does not move it is stable. Due to revolution and rotation of earth from west to east it seems us moving like other star.

We see stars because of the rotation of earth. The earth rotates from west to east. Consider a point just infront of your eyes in space, you keep seeing that point a turn your head from west to east the point will move from east to west. Same case with earth more accurate than this.

Actually Star is situated in space in fixed position and when earth is rotated from west to east about it own axis of rotation we observed that star is moving from east to west.
