Because of weak chemical bonding, Graphite layers can sliding through each other on application of pressure. Thus it can be used as a lubricant.

In simple words it is because graphite is less bounded with the surface so it's used as a lubricant. For example in pencils for smooth writing.

How can we say that only graphite is used as lubricant, silica is also used as lubricant without any clarification in question?

Graphite have more space between their atoms and have smooth bonding that's why the graphite are always smooth in surfaces.

Graphite is used as lubricant under high temperature conditions where petroleum based lubricants loss their viscosity.

Due to structure of graphite layer by layer and slippery in nature due its structure so it is used as lubricant.

Lubricant is like an oil or grease which is used to lessen the friction.

Thank you all for clearing my doubt.

It is able to offer lubrication at temperatures higher than liquid and oil-based lubricants can operate.

Graphite is already working as a solid lubricant.

Same as Grease is semi-solid lubricants.
