Bromine & mercury both are liquid. Why bromine can't be used in thermometers instead of mercury?

Bromine is non-metal but there is a exemption that it us liquid at room temperature as mercury.

What is its practical use?

Bromine is a liquid because the intermolecular forces are strong enough so that it does not vapourise. Br forms diatomic molecules and van der Waals interactions are sufficiently strong.

Bromine because it remain liquid because of its melting point.
