World Red Cros day is celebrated on 8th May every year. This date is the anniversary of the birth of Jean Henry Dunant, was born on 8th May 1828. The swiss humanitarian was the founder of the International Committee of the RED CROSS (ICRC) and the recipient of the first Nobel peace prize.

Red Cross is International Committee established by Henry Dunant in 1863 with the intention to help civilians and give charity during the war. Henry wrote his book memory of solferino in 1862 where he discussed issues during the war and what he felt. Later he won Nobel peace prize.

World Red Cross Day is held on 8 May, the birthday of Jean Henri Dunant, founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross. The Red Crescent is used in place of the Red Cross in many Islamic countries.

It is on this day because this is the date of birth of the founder of the Red. Cross Henry Dunant. He got the first. Red. Cross Day was celebrated for the first time in 1948.
