I agree proton is correct but the no. of protons is always equal to the number of electrons, then why can't we say, the atomic no. is equal to the no. of electrons.

Atomic number is also known as no.of protons. Nucleons is equal to addition of protons& neutrons. (i.e), A=Z+N. Where, z is a proton number or atomic number.

Number of electron = Number of proton = Atomic Number,
Atomic mass = proton+neutron, so answer is (b) and (c) i.e, number of proton or number of electron.
Atomic mass = proton+neutron, so answer is (b) and (c) i.e, number of proton or number of electron.

Since in an atom atomic number = no.of proton = no.of electron.
So atomic number will also be determine by no.of electron.
So atomic number will also be determine by no.of electron.

Because of the sharing process of electrons, a number of electrons is not equal to no. Of protons. It is true only neutral.

At the time of sharing number of electrons changes but the number of protons will be same so protons is the write answer.

In a neutral atom, no.of protons=no.of electrons=atomic number.
But in shared element, no.of protons=atomic number.
But in shared element, no.of protons=atomic number.

In an atom, no of protons are equal to the electrons. So whether it protons and electrons are sai to be correct.

I agree with @Sachin.
But it's customary to say that no of protons determine the atomic number of a element.
