Voltmeter range can be extended by connecting a high resistance in series so that that will acts as multiplier.
Ammeter range can be extended by connecting more and more shunt resistances.

Yes it can be in parallel with the circuit.

What if the voltmeter is connected in series?

To convert a galvanometer into ammeter or voltmeter what we do?

@Somveer,
Nice question : I think we should increase the resistance of ammeter. Here galvano and ammeter use for measure current, but galvano can do one more good thing, this is, it can also show the direction of the current AC.

In parallel ckt voltage is always same in b/w d 2 terminals due 2 this reason voltmeter is used 4 d voltage mest. in parallel with the ckt.

voltage is to be measured only across the circuit...(i.e two ends of the circuit)

Voltage remains the same in the elements which are connected in parallel. Current remains same in series.

Voltmeter has high resistance. Hence it should be connected in parallel.
