What is the color code for a 220
5% resistor?

Answer: Option
Explanation:
Resistor colour coding series:
Black 0
Brown 1
Red 2
Orange 3
Yellow 4
Green 5
Blue 6
Violet 7
Gray 8
White 9
None 20%
Silver 10%
Gold 5%
Therefore Red, Red, Brown, Gold
2 2 101 5%
= 22 x 10 = 220 ohm 5% (tolerance).

R = AB*10^C +or- D.
Where ABCD are color bands on resistor.
D is the tolerance.

Consider the color series in the resistor from opposite of the tolerance color like gold, silver.
In color series value of red is 2 and value of brown is 1. In resistor take a first two values must be same and the third value, we should be taken as power of 10. In question the 5% is denoted so it is gold.
So, by option A) 2*2*10^1=220. unit of the resistance is ohm. therefore 220 ohm 5%. implies that option [A] is the correct.

Absolutely write about color coding. I agree with Neha panday but what about next three color bands.

Third digit in 220 is 0 means black but why 10^1 taken. Can any one explain?

We read "B B ROY of Great Britain Visited Gate Way of India".
1st 2 digits are digits 2 & 2.
3rd is multiple. For brown (1) it is 10 to the power 1.
So it is 22x10 = 220.

Formula: (AB)*10^C.
A=RED.
B=RED.
C=BROWN.
A=RED.
B=RED.
C=BROWN.
