Opposes means the negative terminal of v1 and negative terminal of v2 are side by side.
Opposing 24 - 06 = 18v.
Opposing 24 - 06 = 18v.

Two different voltage passing in a single circuit:
V1 = 24 & V2 = 6.
OPPOSING:
V1 is positive polarity.
V2 is negative polarity.
So, that (+v1-v2) = 24-5 = 18v.
V1 = 24 & V2 = 6.
OPPOSING:
V1 is positive polarity.
V2 is negative polarity.
So, that (+v1-v2) = 24-5 = 18v.

If a cell connects a series negative terminal of the cell a connected to a positive terminal of an another cell. By applying a sign conversion rule to this circuit you get an answer.

If at all circuit (resistors) connected in parallel then drop across them will be same.

6v, 4v, 2v are in series than total voltage.
