IC 4049 is a square wave oscillator. It has six independent inverters; each of it has an input and an output. so 6 x 2=12.
Totally, 12 pins are for i/p and o/p. pins 13 & 16 have No Connections. pins 1 & 8 are for power supply and ground.

1) The IC 4049 is a CMOS logic chip.
2) It includes the six independent inverters inside.
3) We often use them for interfacing.
And, make simple clock pulse generators and oscillators.
4) When connecting two in series to make a non-inverting buffer.
