Study the following table and answer the questions.
Classification of 100 Students Based on the Marks Obtained by them in Physics and Chemistry in an Examination.
Subject | Marks out of 50 | ||||
40 and above | 30 and above | 20 and above | 10 and above | 0 and above | |
Physics | 9 | 32 | 80 | 92 | 100 |
Chemistry | 4 | 21 | 66 | 81 | 100 |
Average (Aggregate) | 7 | 27 | 73 | 87 | 100 |
1.
What is the different between the number of students passed with 30 as cut-off marks in Chemistry and those passed with 30 as cut-off marks in aggregate?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Required difference
= (No. of students scoring 30 and above marks in Chemistry)
- (Number of students scoring 30 and above marks in aggregate)
= 27 - 21
= 6.

@Rajesh.
You are correct and the given answer also correct because in the question given that 30 and above means the number of student get 40 and above also included in 30 and above.
And observe that the number of students values goes to decrease in the order (0 and above), (10-and above), (20-and above).
So the number of student obtained 30 and above aggregate marks is 27 and number of students obtained marks 30 and above are 21 in chemistry.
The difference is 27-21 = 6.

30 and above average aggregate (chem and physics is 27).
We want difference in chemistry only which is 21.
So 27-21 is 6.
We want difference in chemistry only which is 21.
So 27-21 is 6.

No, 30 and above means (30-50) marks. So (40-50) are also included in the (30-50). 6 is the right answer.

May be it should have been 9. Right? the students who got 40 and above should have been counted.

But if a guy got marks above 40 means obviously he got above 30.
So, No.of students above 30 = above 30+above 40 = 21+4 = 25;
No.of students above 30 in aggregate = above 30+above 40 = 27+7 = 34;
==> 34-25=9, So 9 is right answer.
So, No.of students above 30 = above 30+above 40 = 21+4 = 25;
No.of students above 30 in aggregate = above 30+above 40 = 27+7 = 34;
==> 34-25=9, So 9 is right answer.

No.of student above 30 are 21.
No.of student scoring 30 and above is 27.
So difference is 27-21 = 6.
No.of student scoring 30 and above is 27.
So difference is 27-21 = 6.

No.of students scoring 30 and above marks in Chemistry = 27 how?
Number of students scoring 30 and above marks in aggregate = 21 how?
Number of students scoring 30 and above marks in aggregate = 21 how?

If cut off is 30, it means marks with 40 and above 40 are also be added.
