Total bonus equal to total salary.
I.e Salary given in hundreds but bonus is actual that's why we can multiply 100.

Let,
Total bonus = x% of salary.
=> 17 = 1710 (x%).
=>17 = 1710 (x/100).
Now solving for x,
x = 1700/1710 = 0.99 = 1% (approximately).
Total bonus = x% of salary.
=> 17 = 1710 (x%).
=>17 = 1710 (x/100).
Now solving for x,
x = 1700/1710 = 0.99 = 1% (approximately).

Instead of considering the summation of Bonus and Summation of Salary, Considering the Bonus and Salary for individual year would be a wise move and would consume less time.
For Eg:
Considering the Year 1998, Bonus is 3.00 and Salary is 288 Lakhs Respectively
3*(100)/288 = 1.04 % approximately 1%.

3*(100)/288 = 1.04 % approximately 1%.

But why we divide 17 by1710?

It's very simple. Understand the question first.
Hint: X is what percent of Y --> (X/Y)*100.
Explanation:
Try to sort it out from the leftmost end.
Total amount of bonus paid by the company during the given period
-->3.00+2.52+3.84+3.68+3.96 = 17.00.
Total amount of salary paid during this period
-->288+342+324+336+420 = 1710.
Now come to the right most end.
Total amount of bonus paid by the company during the given period
-->3.00+2.52+3.84+3.68+3.96 = 17.00.
Come to the middle part of the question joining the first two questions...it clarifies as 17.00 is what percent of 1710?
Problem solved:
--> (17/1710)*100 ~ 1%.
@Narendra Reddy.
During this period means during the entire period shown in the table i.e., from 1998 to 2002.
