Sikkim has been officially chosen as the host for the 49th Yonex Sunrise Junior National Badminton Championship (U-19) in 2026. This is a significant milestone as it marks the first time the state will host a national-level badminton tournament of this scale. The event is scheduled from 14 November to 21 November 2026 and will include both individual and team competitions. Organised under the Badminton Association of India, the championship will bring together top junior players from across the country, offering valuable exposure and boosting the sporting ecosystem in Sikkim.

India will host the World Indoor Athletics Championships for the first time in 2028, marking a historic milestone in the country’s sporting journey. The event will take place at the Kalinga Indoor Athletics Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, which meets international standards. This achievement reflects India’s growing capability in hosting major global sporting events and strengthens its presence in international athletics. The championship, held every two years, features elite athletes competing in indoor track and field events. Sina Ruppenthal is a strongwoman athlete from Germany who set a Guinness World Record by lifting and throwing 10 female individuals in just 37.44 seconds.
