Pick up the correct statement from the following :
In soils, the flow index indicates variation in shear strength with water content
Liquid limit minus plastic limit, is known as plasticity index of the soil
Plastic limit minus shrinkage limit, is known as shrinkage index of the soil
The ratio of the plasticity index to the flow limit, is known as toughness index of the soil
All the above.

Toughness Index = plasticity index/flow index.
Shrinkage Index = Liquid limit-shrinkage Limit.
Except (C),(D) all are correct.

The ratio of the plasticity index to the flow index (not flow limit), is known as the toughness index of the soil.

All the options are correct except (C).

The difference between liquid limit & shrinkage limit is called shrinkage index.

I think the correct answer is "The ratio of the plasticity index to the flow index, is known as toughness index of the soil".

I agree with you @Pradipto Sarkar.

All are correct except option (c).

As, shrinkage index =liquit limit -shrinkage limit.

It's only plastic limit minus shrinkage limit.

Pradipto Sarkar said:   8 years ago
All the options are correct except (c).

Shrinkage index = liquid limit - shrinkage limit.

Liquid limit - shrinkage limit =shrinkage index.
