Gneiss is a widely distributed rock which undergoes various metamorphic processes from already existing either igneous or sedimentary rock. So you have to choose wider one. That is sedimentary metamorphic rock.

Which is the correct answer?

Gneiss is a high-grade metamorphic rock, meaning that it has been subjected to higher temperatures and pressures than schist. It is formed by the metamorphosis of granite or sedimentary rock. Gneiss displays distinct foliation, representing alternating layers composed of different minerals.

It is metamorphic rock which obtains from granite.

Gneiss is a rock with higher crushing strength and basically having good mechanical properties in comparison to other metamorphic rock. So it is obtained from metamorphic action over granite and granite is igneous rock.

Rocks come from metamorphic action of sedimentary rocks are weak in mechanical properties in comparison to comes from metamorphic action of igneous rock.
