A metallic sheet is of rectangular shape with dimensions 48 m x 36 m. From each of its corners, a square is cut off so as to make an open box. If the length of the square is 8 m, the volume of the box (in m3) is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Clearly, l = (48 - 16)m = 32 m,
b = (36 -16)m = 20 m,
h = 8 m.
Volume of the box = (32 x 20 x 8) m3 = 5120 m3.

The squares are not used for making that box, the remaining part of the sheet is used for the box.
This sheet has been cut only for making the open box.
If you take base of dimension 32 * 20 then the remaining extra part of the sheet which is also the remaining connected part can be folded to make the open box.
So, now the height of the box is 8 so volume is 32 * 20 * 8.

Why can't we find the remaining area and multiply it by the height?

Here we cut in corners four sides but not in the whole side. So that why we subtract (8+8) from original breadth and length.

If we have 36 Meter scale and if we deduct 8 Meter from left and 8 meter from right we get 22 Meter.

@All.
To make an open box, the sheet is to be moulded after cutting 4 squares. Then effective length becomes 32m and breadth becomes 20 m and the height of the box is the length of square taken off (i.e =8 m).
Volume of box is 32 * 20 * 8.

By we consider the ratio of volume to the curved surface area why not curved surface area to volume to find radius? Please, anyone, tell me.
