11.
A sum of money amounts to Rs. 9800 after 5 years and Rs. 12005 after 8 years at the same rate of simple interest. The rate of interest per annum is:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
S.I. for 3 years = Rs. (12005 - 9800) = Rs. 2205.
S.I. for 5 years = Rs. | ![]() |
2205 | x 5 | ![]() |
= Rs. 3675 |
3 |
Principal = Rs. (9800 - 3675) = Rs. 6125.
Hence, rate = | ![]() |
100 x 3675 | ![]() |
= 12% |
6125 x 5 |

I didn't understand the last step.
Hence, rate = 100 x 3675% = 12%.
6125 x 5.
Hence, rate = 100 x 3675% = 12%.
6125 x 5.

I am not getting a solution for this problem. Then what is the difference between 9800 and 3675 for 5 years. Already we have 9800 for 5 years then why we need 3675?
I tried like the bellow method.
for 1 year:
P x 1 x R/100
for 5 years:
9800 = P x 5 x R/100.
for 8 years:
12005 = P x 8 x R/100.
But I did not get answer after seeing the explanation. Please explain.

If I want to solve it with 1 years interest i.e. 735 = (6125 * r * 1)/100.
Then the answer is not coming. Why? Someone, please explain.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GIVEN YEARS 5 AND 8 IS 3,
SO,
S.I. for 3 years = Rs. (12005 - 9800) = Rs. 2205.
S.I. for 1 year = Rs. (2205/3) = Rs 735.
S.I. for 5 years = 735*5 = Rs. 3675.
Principal = Rs. (9800 - 3675) = Rs. 6125.
Hence, rate = 12%.
SO,
S.I. for 3 years = Rs. (12005 - 9800) = Rs. 2205.
S.I. for 1 year = Rs. (2205/3) = Rs 735.
S.I. for 5 years = 735*5 = Rs. 3675.
Principal = Rs. (9800 - 3675) = Rs. 6125.
Hence, rate = 12%.

Can't we think in this way that after five years amount is 9800 and we know each year S.I is 735 and we will add to it but 10% of 9800 is 980. So the answer should be obviously less than 10%. I am talking for the 6th year.

Sir, why you have done (2205/3) * 5?
I didn't understand that step. Please explain me.
