11.
A sum of money amounts to Rs. 9800 after 5 years and Rs. 12005 after 8 years at the same rate of simple interest. The rate of interest per annum is:
5%
8%
12%
15%
Answer: Option
Explanation:

S.I. for 3 years = Rs. (12005 - 9800) = Rs. 2205.

S.I. for 5 years = Rs. 2205 x 5 = Rs. 3675
3

Principal = Rs. (9800 - 3675) = Rs. 6125.

Hence, rate = 100 x 3675 % = 12%
6125 x 5

After 5 years,
P + S.I = 9800 (sum of money amount).

After 8 years,
P + S.I = 12005 (sum of money amount).

P is no change. But S.I change every year. Therefore the sum of money amount will be changed. That's why the difference of the sum of money amount is equal to different of S.I.

P = SI * 100/(R*T).

Can anyone explain why they have considered 5 years and not 8 years?

SI for 3 years=12,005-9800=2205.
SI for 1 year=2205/3=735.
SI for 5 year=735*5=3675.
p = total amount - SI.
p = 9800-3675=6125.

The rate of interest = SI *100/p*n,
R = 3675*100/6125*5,
R =12%.
