Father 38.
Half of the father age 38/2 = 19.
Hence 5 years back =19 - 5 = 14.
Half of the father age 38/2 = 19.
Hence 5 years back =19 - 5 = 14.

Let present age of son =x.
At the time birth son = 0 and father = x.
Now, son = x & father= 2x
So 2x= 38
=} x = 19.
5 years ago son was 19-5= 14 years.
At the time birth son = 0 and father = x.
Now, son = x & father= 2x
So 2x= 38
=} x = 19.
5 years ago son was 19-5= 14 years.

0-------------38
38-----------38+38 i.e.2*38.
From above we can conclude that son's age =father's age/2,
son's age =38/2=19,
hence,age of son before 5 years =19-5=14.
Son's age = 14 yrs.

@All.
Simply the calculation is; (father's present age - sons present age) = father's age at the time of birth.
But father's age at the time of the birth of his son = son's present age.

These can be solved by option elimination method we have to see by option which no will be divided by 38 in option 19*2=38. Now subtract by 5 because it has told 5 years ago 19-5=14.

Let son age X and father age 38.
38(father age)-X (son age ) =X because father's age at the time of sons born (as per question ) =sons age i.e X.
Then 38-X = X.
38(father age)-X (son age ) =X because father's age at the time of sons born (as per question ) =sons age i.e X.
Then 38-X = X.
