32 years
36 years
40 years
48 years
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the mother's present age be x years.

Then, the person's present age = 2 x years.

In question they have asked present age of mother, But 40 is after 8 years old. Shouldn't it be 40-8-32?

You are right @Kinyera.

If we take 3/2 the answer will be 10.

I think the question is incorrect.

They are asking the present age of the mother.

So, the answer could be 32 only.

Guys are saying that one-half means 1/2 then how will you express just "half"?

Question says one-half of the age, Not one and half.

So,It's 1/2 not 3/2.

Let mother 's age be x.
2/5x + 8 = 1/2(x+8),
0.4x + 8 = 0.5(x+8),
X = 40.

40 is the age of mother after 8 years. So we must subtract 8 from it.
