Six years ago, the ratio of the ages of Kunal and Sagar was 6 : 5. Four years hence, the ratio of their ages will be 11 : 10. What is Sagar's age at present?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the ages of Kunal and Sagar 6 years ago be 6x and 5x years respectively.
Then, | (6x + 6) + 4 | = | 11 |
(5x + 6) + 4 | 10 |
10(6x + 10) = 11(5x + 10)
5x = 10
x = 2.
Sagar's present age = (5x + 6) = 16 years.

Well in question they mentioned six years ago! so (6x+6) / (5x+6).
But they didn't mention that after 4 years from present age or from six years ago I hope the data given is insufficient.

Why we subtract 6 years from answer. Because we find answer for 6 years ago and also 4 years hence?

We are supposed to calculate his present age so before 6 years his age be (6x) so after 6 years his age turns to (6x+6). They also mentioned four years hence so it is (6x+6) + 4.

It makes me confuse. Here in the question said 6 years ago. It means deduction?

Put it this way. The ratio of their ages 6 years ago was 6:5 and then come 6 year ahead to present time so there will be an addition of 6 years and then from this present moment again moving 4 years ahead that means adding 4 years. Hence the two additions.

6 years ago means 6yr back. So how can we add 6 in first step? (6x+6/5x+6).

Also why can't the age of sagar be 20 yrs at present, as we need to include 4 yrs from the question to get the age of sagar at present?

They have mentioned that 6 years ago the ratio will be 6x+6/5x+6=6:5 and taking present age as a reference after 4 years the ratio is 6x+6+4/5x+6+4=11:10 So the answer will be 16 years.

Let the present of kunal=x ,& sagar =y.
Given 6 years ago their ratio is 6:5, here 6 years should be subtracted from their present age.
i.e.,
1) (x-6)/(y-6) = 6/5 -----(1).
Given 4 years later means nothing but 2 years ago from their present age (or) again they come back 4 years from ago 6 years.
2) (x-2)/(y-2) = 11/10 -----(2).
Solving (1) & (2) we get sagar age y=10.
After 6 years sagar age is,
y+6 = 10+6 = 16.

y+6 = 10+6 = 16.
