Present ages of Sameer and Anand are in the ratio of 5 : 4 respectively. Three years hence, the ratio of their ages will become 11 : 9 respectively. What is Anand's present age in years?
24
27
40
Cannot be determined
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the present ages of Sameer and Anand be 5x years and 4x years respectively.

Then, 5x + 3 = 11
4x + 3 9

9(5x + 3) = 11(4x + 3)

45x + 27 = 44x + 33

45x - 44x = 33 - 27

x = 6.

Anand's present age = 4x = 24 years.

Sameer and Anand age ratio is 5:4.

After 3 years.

Sameer and Anand age ration is 11:9.
The diffrence between presnet and after age is 6 & 5.
After cross multiplying to the difference of ratios samerr age 5x = 5*5 = 25.
Anand age 4x =6*4 = 24.

That's it.

The ratio between presents ages of Pand Q is 3:4 respectively. If Q, s present age is 20 years, what will be the ratio of ages after 5 years?

Can anyone solve this?

Let me explain this in a simple procedure. The First ratio is 5:4.
We have to find Anand age after 3yrs.
Second ratio 11:9
So add 3 to both the numbers.y we r adding 3 is in question they gave after 3yrs
So the new ratio is 14:12

First ratio is 5:4.
New ratio is 14:12.
In this Anand age ratio is 4 AND 12.

Now check the option which is exactly divisible by both the numbers and that's the answer.

Can we do like this?

5x+3=11x
4x+3=9x
===>
20x+15=45x
20x+12=44x
===>
3=x

Is this right?

Calculation can be reduced by using components and dividend which is applied on ratio's on both sides of equals.

Here is the method -> num1/den1 = num2=den2.
-> APPLYING COMPONENDO AND DIVIDENDO ON BOTH SIDES.
-> (num1+den1)/(num1-den1) = (num2+den2)/(num2-den2).

So here it goes,
(5x + 3) / (4x +3) = 11/9,
using above method it reduces to below in one go,
(9x + 6) / x = 10,
=> x = 6.

The requires answer then would be 4*x (using given ratio) is 24(answer).

SHORTCUT METHOD.

Since they are asking ANAND's present age the ratio for Anands present age is 4.
So check the options which go for 4 table.
24 goes for 4 so 24 is the answer.
Suppose the ask Anand's age 3 years later the ratio is 9 so 3 years later his age will be 27 since 27 is divisible by 9.

@Srinath.

Let present ages of Ganguly and Sachin be x & y respectively.
Product of extremes = Product of means.
6(y-1)=7(x-1) &.
7(y+4)=8(x+4).
x= 31 and y= 36.

Thanks for the given explanation.

One year ago Ganguly and Sachin ages are in the ratio 6:7.4 years hence, the ratio of their ages will become 7:8. How old is Sachin?

Please give me the answer.

Let Nelson present age =3x and Michael present age =5x, After 9 years, so adding
(3x+9)/(5x+9) = (3/4).
x = 3.
m = 5x.
m = 5(3) = 15.
