Present ages of Sameer and Anand are in the ratio of 5 : 4 respectively. Three years hence, the ratio of their ages will become 11 : 9 respectively. What is Anand's present age in years?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the present ages of Sameer and Anand be 5x years and 4x years respectively.
Then, | 5x + 3 | = | 11 |
4x + 3 | 9 |
9(5x + 3) = 11(4x + 3)
45x + 27 = 44x + 33
45x - 44x = 33 - 27
x = 6.
Anand's present age = 4x = 24 years.

First, write the present ages of Sameer and Anand as 5 and 4 respectively.
Now after three years their ages are 11 and 9 respectively.
Now to find the age of Anand. You have to multiply the present age of Anand.
i.e. (4 * 3(11 - 9)) / (11 * 4 - 9 * 5).
You will get the requires age of Anand, where 3 is times of the year, 11 and 9 are the ages of Sameer and Anand after 3 years.

Given Ratio 5:4----->(1).
Difference between the ratio is 1.
After three years 11:9---->(2).
Difference between the ratio is 2.
Both the ratio difference are not same.
So multiply (1) by 2, we get 10:8.
||ly multiply (2) by 1, we get 11:9. now the difference are same.
Anand's present age=8*3=24 year.
How here 8 will be please tell me?

Ratio of the age of two persons is given. Let their age be in the ratio 5x &4x. it becomes 5x/4x .then in the question it is given,3years hence{means after 3years} then add 3in 5x/4x then we get 5x+3/4x+3.but in the question it is given that after 3years the ratio becomes 11\9 .SO IT becomes as 5x+3/4x+3=11/9. Now we can solve the question...

The ratio means short answer of fraction eg: 20/25 short answer is 4/5 so we can write in the form of 4x/5x.
~ the fraction of numerator and denominators are divided by the same number that's called x
P/Q=3x/4x(presentratio) Q's present age is 20.
4x =20 ; => x= 5.
after 5 years, (3x+5/4x+5) = 20/25.
Then the ratio is 4/5.

We can also use the formula qt(r-s)/ps-qr where p,q,r,s are given ratios 5:4, 11:9 respectively and t= years given.
4(3)(11-9)/5(9)-4(11) = 12(2)/45 - 44 = 24.
Formula: The ratio of present ages of A and B is p:q and after t years, the ratio is r:s, then
A's present age = pt(r-s)/ps-qr.
B's present age = qt(r-s)/ps-qr.
4(3)(11-9)/5(9)-4(11) = 12(2)/45 - 44 = 24.

B's present age = qt(r-s)/ps-qr.

I hope my solution will help you...
Now Sameer age be x, Anand be y.
Ratio is x/y = 5/4 fine.... then 3 years after right, so x+3/y+3 = 11/9,
Then, will produce the eqn...4x=5y--------->1
9x+27=11y+33---------->2
We obtain that is x=5y/4, put into eqn 2,
9*5y/4-11y=33-27
45y-44y=6*4
y = 24 so simple friends.

SHORTCUT METHOD.
Since they are asking ANAND's present age the ratio for Anands present age is 4.
So check the options which go for 4 table.
24 goes for 4 so 24 is the answer.
Suppose the ask Anand's age 3 years later the ratio is 9 so 3 years later his age will be 27 since 27 is divisible by 9.

I think 27 is answer. Because, When you take present ratio as 11:9, Sameer age will be 33 and Anand age will be 27 (multiplied by 3). When you go back 3 years.
Their age will be 30 and 24 (divided by 6). So, it will be of ratio 5:4. which is correct ratio as given data. Explain if I am wrong.

Hai @Iti the problem can be solved as,
a+b+c=80 then after 3 years (a+3)+(b+3)+(c+3)=80+9=89
The given problem can be solved in other method as,
Given x/y=5/4;
After 3 years (x+3)/(y+3)=11/9;
Solving 9x-11y-6=0;
4x-5y=0;
We get x=30 y=24 Hence answer is 24 years.
