Gauri went to the stationers and bought things worth Rs. 25, out of which 30 paise went on sales tax on taxable purchases. If the tax rate was 6%, then what was the cost of the tax free items?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the amount taxable purchases be Rs. x.
Then, 6% of x = | 30 |
100 |

30 | x | 100 | ![]() |
100 | 6 |
Cost of tax free items = Rs. [25 - (5 + 0.30)] = Rs. 19.70

Let the sum paid to Y per week be Rs. z.
Then X will get= 120% of Y,
It means= z*120/100= 6/5 z.
Let the total is z+6/5 z = 550.
(5z+6z)/5 =550,
11z=550*5,
z = 250 Ans.
Then X will get= 120% of Y,
It means= z*120/100= 6/5 z.
Let the total is z+6/5 z = 550.
(5z+6z)/5 =550,
11z=550*5,
z = 250 Ans.

Two tailors X and Y are paid a total of Rs.550 per week by their employer. If X is paid 120 percent of the sum paid to y, how much is Y paid per week?
Can anyone help me to find out solution?

Given 400$.
Assume the cost of the table is 250 and cost of two chairs 150.
250+150=400.
10% loss from chairs=150-15=135.
And 10% profit from table=250+25=275.
275+135=410 .
Here in this 410, 5% of profit is added i.e,. 10$.
So, the cost price of chair is 150.

Hi,
Let's assume,
Price of non-taxable item --) X
Price of taxable item --) Y
Tax Amount --) Z
Gauri gave total amount Rs.25
So,
X+Y+Z = 2500 ( amount in Paise) ----(A)
6% of Price of taxable item = Tax Amount
Here tax amount is 30 Paise.
So,
6Y/100 = 30 ---(B)
Therefore Y = 500
We have Y = 500 and Z= 30
Put these in first equation (A)
X + 500 + 30 = 2500
X = 1970
So X value is 1970 Paise.
Price of non taxable item is Rs. 19.70.
Use equations whenever possible.
Have a good day.

Lets say cost price of chair and table are C & T respectively.
Given, T+2(C)=400......[EQ 1] (sice there are two chairs.)
Chair at 10% loss
Table at 10% profit and
Total profit is 5%.
As there are two chairs, 2((90/100)*C)+(110/100)*T=(105/100)*400 -------> [eq 2.]
BY SOLVING EQ 1 & EQ 2, WE GET C=50.
Hence cost of the chair is 50$ but not 100$ as told by others, they didn't consider the second chair.
