Every term will be divisible by 9 except 18.5.
So 18.5 is wrong.
So 18.5 is wrong.

54 - 36 = 18 next no.
27 - 18 = 9 next no.
13.5 - 9 = 4.5 next no.
So 18.5 wrong.
27 - 18 = 9 next no.
13.5 - 9 = 4.5 next no.
So 18.5 wrong.

Forget the decimal point then every number sums up 9 except 18.5 so it is wrong.

Agree @Nagendramurthy.
(5 + 4) = 9
(3 + 6) = 9
(2 + 7) = 9
(1 + 8 + 5) = 14
(5 + 4) = 9
(3 + 6) = 9
(2 + 7) = 9
(1 + 8 + 5) = 14

I just don't get it ! Maybe I have an IQ.
I answered 4.5. All the other numbers individually add up to '9'.

I read it as whatever was being added to it, the double of it was deducted from it so according to me 18 added 36 deducted 9 added 18 deducted therefore when 9.5 was added 19 should have been deducted & 4.5 would be wrong & -0.5 could be the answer instead of 4.5 & I conclude that I considered 4.5 wrong!

Divide the terms by 2 to get the alternative number.
36/2 = 18.
18/2 = 9.
9/2 = 4.5 and 54/2 = 27.
27/2 = 13.5.
So 18.5 is incorrect.
36/2 = 18.
18/2 = 9.
9/2 = 4.5 and 54/2 = 27.
27/2 = 13.5.
So 18.5 is incorrect.

Divide all numbers with 2 and relate them alternatively hence 18.5 is wrong.

Sum of digits is 9 in all the numbers. Odd one is that which does not satisfy this condition.
