At 3:40, the hour hand and the minute hand of a clock form an angle of:
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Angle traced by hour hand in 12 hrs. = 360°.
Angle traced by it in | 11 | hrs = | ![]() |
360 | x | 11 | ![]() |
° | = 110°. |
3 | 12 | 3 |
Angle traced by minute hand in 60 min. = 360°.
Angle traced by it in 40 min. = | ![]() |
360 | x 40 | ![]() |
° | = 240°. |
60 |
Required angle (240 - 110)° = 130°.

While considering 3.40 we take 40 mins = 40/60 = 2/3.
So 3*2/3 = 11/3.
So 3*2/3 = 11/3.

Whenever the angle b/w hands of clock is asked just apply the formula:
Angle= |30h -11/2(m)|.
Where h is hour and m is min.
Angle= |30h -11/2(m)|.
Where h is hour and m is min.

Angle traced in 12 hours = 360 degrees.
Hence for, 3 hours and 40 minutes.
Convert 3 hours into minutes 3 hours* 60 minutes = 180 minutes.
Now, just add 40 minutes with 180 minutes total of 220 minutes.
Now divide 220/60 = 11/3.
Hence for, 3 hours and 40 minutes.
Convert 3 hours into minutes 3 hours* 60 minutes = 180 minutes.
Now, just add 40 minutes with 180 minutes total of 220 minutes.
Now divide 220/60 = 11/3.

Guys got it.
If time less than 30 min use 30h - 11.5m = theta ex. for 4.10,4.15.
If time is cross 30 min use 11.5m - 30h = theta ex-for 3.40,6.40'.

First consider for hours hand.
1hr of hand movement = 30 degrees.
Next for min hand.
5 min of min hand = 30 degrees.
Hence for angle between them subtract the total angle made by them.

Simple total min 3*60=180+40
220/60
22/6
11/3
This for hrs. so
360/12*11/3
30*11/3
= 110 ok (1)
now
for min.
360/60*40
60*40
= 240 (2)
now
(2-1)
240-110
ans. 130
220/60
22/6
11/3
This for hrs. so
360/12*11/3
30*11/3
= 110 ok (1)
now
for min.
360/60*40
60*40
= 240 (2)
now
(2-1)
240-110
ans. 130

Convert the whole time in hour.
3 hour+40 min=3h+(40/60) h=22/6=11/3 hour.
3 hour+40 min=3h+(40/60) h=22/6=11/3 hour.
