A jar full of whisky contains 40% alcohol. A part of this whisky is replaced by another containing 19% alcohol and now the percentage of alcohol was found to be 26%. The quantity of whisky replaced is:

By the rule of alligation, we have:

So, ratio of 1st and 2nd quantities = 7 : 14 = 1 : 2

The ratio of 1st and 2nd quantities is=1:2 as it solved in explanation.
but they asked the quantity of whiskey replace means 2/(1+2)=2/3.

Let, the total original amount of whiskey = 10 ml, i.e. 4 ml alcohol and 6 ml non-alcohol.

Let x ml be the amount removed,
Total alcohol left = 4-0.4x.

New quantity of whiskey added = x ml out of which 0.19 is the alcohol.

Thus, the final quantity of alcohol,
= 4-0.4x+0.19x=4-0.21x.
ATQ, (4-0.21x)= 26% of 10 [Here, initially 10],
=> x = 20/3 ml.

As per the question, we need to find the x ml removed as a ratio of the initial volume,
= (20/3)/10 = 2/3 (Answer).

1:2 is ratio now quantity of alcohol in it is 1/3 ok, now the question is asking about the quantity of whiskey that is 1-1/3 so we got 2/3 answer because 1/3which we got earlier is the part of alcohol now 2/3 is the part of whiskey replaced.

Container 1 has 40% alchol.

They mixed 19% of alcohol and they get 26% alcohol mix.

By using of allegation rule we are getting 1:2. This means we add 1 part from container 1 and remaining from container two. That 2 parts.

The total is 3 parts.

So, the Answer is 2/3.

Among the 3 parts of 40% alcohol now 2 parts are 19% alcohol that means it is replaced. 1:2. Here 2 parts are replaced by 19% alcohol.

X litres to start with so it contains in the below ratio of alcohol and water(assume).

40*x/100 - alcohol and 60*x/100 water,
Now, y litres of whisky to be taken away and added by 19% of y litres of whisky,

So we know when anything is taken away in the mixture, it takes out equal amounts out from the mixture.

hence since y litres is taken out it takes out alcohol in equal ratio i.e(40*y/100), we get the below equation for remaining alchol in the mixture.

(40*x/100 )- (40 *y/100),
Now they say 19% of y litres of alcohol is added so, equations become,
(40*x/100 )- (40 *y/100 ) + 19*y/100 = 26*x/100.

Solving we get 2/3.

Water:milk left after first attempt = 36:4.

Therefore, 9/10 part milk is present after every attempt.
After three attempts the amount of milk left = 40*9/10*9/10*9/10
= 29.16 L.
