As an verb its best meaning is "Explorer".

Explorers and inventors are also collective nouns and not otherwise. Settlers is not the best answer i suggest that Explorers is the correct choice.

Pioneer means Leader. Settlers are not necessarily pioneers. If anything, it should be explorers.
