Wipro Interview Experience - Kolkata, September 14, 2015
This year Wipro Technologies was sharing the day 1 slot with CTS in our college. Wipro does not allow candidates with subjects of arrears or backlogs. This year all the eligible students had to register themselves online for the recruitment process and take a print out of the boarding pass.
There were 352 students sitting for the Wipro campus drive and we all were told to report by 9 am.
The Wipro officials came after 12 pm and after that we had the pre-placement talk in which we were shown a Powerpoint presentation on Wipro. Be careful when the details of the company are shown because you make get a question on that in your interview.
We were informed that all the students who were having 75% in 10, 12 and B.Tech will not be giving any aptitude test but they have to appear for a technical aptitude round. So 153 students sat for the technical Apti round including me.
The technical aptitude round was adaptive. All the questions required very clear concepts of C, DS and Java. They were kind of easy, but some of us said it was quite difficult.
140 students out of 153 cleared this round.
The aptitude round were not very easy, but if one can solve the R.S. Agarwal book, he or she wont be facing much difficulty.
About 80 students cleared this apti round.
It was 5 pm when we were wold that the interviews will also be conducted today only. I was lucky my name was called early and I had my interview by 6:20 pm.
The person who took my interview was a cool man with a relaxed attitude.
Me: Good evening Sir!
I: Good evening, please sit down.
I: Why do you want to join Wipro? See it's 7 pm. and I am here with work! I can't even spend time with my son!
Me: I replied.
I: So, you have gone to a good school I see.
I: You have done projects and training too. Let me not ask you about those. Tell me about OSI model.
Me: (I have not given Networking in my subjects of interest) Sir, I am not comfortable in networking Sir.
I: No need for bookish answers! Tell me industry based ones.
Me: I explained whatever I can.
I: So tell me can Java run in 1 MB RAM machine?
Me: (too confused) We need to have a JVM for that configuration I guess.
I: No bookish answer! I want answers that can relate to the industry. (smiling)
Me: (too confused to say anything)
I: Do you know different types of testing?
Me: Sir, I am from CSE background and we have the subject software engineering in the current semester and the classes have not yet been started. I just know very very little about SDLC.
I: Tell me what you know about SDLC and its models.
Me: I said whatever I knew.
I: So tell me how do we hack a computer?
Me: (I knew nothing about hacking!) I don't know Sir.
I: Then tell me what do we need for hacking. Only username and password?
Me: Umm. Yes, May be. I don't know Sir.
At the end we were both smiling because I couldn't even answer anything properly. He told me to explain all my extra curricular activities, which I had a lot to speak about, and I did.
I: So, you have any problem to relocate?
Me: I explained no.
I: I am a Bong guy. But now in Bangalore. Would you like to have Chennai food if you are relocated?
Me: I explained yes.
I: You are surely joking! No bongs like Chennai food! How come you travel so much everyday? You live so far away from your college.
Me: I said why I have no problem.
I: You look like a pampered child! Tell me about your family.
Me: I said.
I: Hey, do you have a LinkedIn Account?
Me: Yes Sir.
I: Come on, let me add you there! See you in HR round!
Me: Thank you Sir.
After my awful and funny performance I was surprised I was called for HR round that too within 5 minutes of this!
I was the first one to go to my HR panel. My interviewer was the one who spoke in the presentation. He was a decent man.
I had HR interview for 40 minutes and I was literally facing questions like bullets. From intricate details of my Resume, to giving different situations, he asked me everything.
He told me to compare Bangladesh and Kolkata in my own views, What is the most challenging situation I ever faced?, What new thing I will do to improve Wipro? etc. mostly questions that you can never find in an HR answers page!
One thing I noticed, you need to spontaneous and quick as well as have confidence.
That day interviews ended at 3:30 am and it was a hell of an experience!
140 people were recruited from my college by Wipro and luckily I was one of them.
