Tata Consultancy Services Interview Experience - Gandhinagar, March 14,15 2015
Indiabix is doing the great job seriously, taking the helps about online test and interview from the posts from the experienced people, I could crack the online test and could perform well in the interviews.
First of all, I want to thank all the experience sharers.
The online test contained 3 sections,
1. Verbal Ability test (NO NEGATIVE MARKING) : In this, we have to type a short letter, the topic and the flow is provided to us and we have to take care that we mention all the words in the letter displayed on the screen. We also have to take care of the grammar while typing. This section, we have to finish within 10 minutes.
This section is quite easy and nothing to worry about that much.
2. Quantitative Aptitude Part 1 (NEGATIVE MARKING IS THERE) : In this second section, there are 28 questions and each of equal marks. The questions are focused mainly on the topics like profit and loss, percentage, Simple and Compound Interest, Time and work, Time speed and distance, Probability, average and Number Systems. Apart from this, there are also questions on geometry.
This section is of medium difficulty, I did not attempt a single question on geometry because I didn't prepare for that. I attempted only 17 questions but all the answers were correct. I didn't want to take risk.
3. Quantitative Aptitude Part 2 (NEGATIVE MARKING IS THERE) : In this last section, there are only two questions but each contains higher marks than the previous section's questions.
These two questions are of little bit higher difficulty from the previous ones. I attempted only one and that was correct.
Total combined time of these two sections is of 80 minutes so there is lot of time we get for solving each question and the greatest news is: "Calculator is allowed!".
I got the result of the online test after 5 days of the test. I was selected for the interviews.
There are three rounds in the interview:
1. Technical Round:
There were two persons,
Me: Sir, May I come in?
Me: Very Good morning sirs, with a smile and checking my watch (assuring that it was still morning!).
They: Also with smile, replied me.
Man 1: Jay, please give me your resume.
Both were reading the details.
Man 2: Your hobby is playing computer games, name some.
Me: Counter strike, Hawx, Cricket.
Man 1: Do you know in which language CS is developed?
Me: C language sir.
He seemed impressed with my answer.
Man 1: Didn't you get campus placement till now? (I am from Nirma).
Me: No sir.
Man 1: How many companies you applied for?
Me: 4 so far, I told him the names of the companies.
Man 1: What is the difference between C and C++?
Me: I explained with one basic difference (top to bottom and bottom top approach).
He seemed impressed again!
Man 1: Difference between Overriding and overloading?
Man 1: Can we do overloading in C++.
Man 2: Difference b/w 32 bits and 64 bits?
Me: (Confused) tried to answer.
Man 2 added some correction on that.
Man 1: What is pointers?
Man 1: Why this concept is not used in other languages?
Me: Sir, no idea.
He: Because of hacking.
Man 2: (Suddenly asked question from my branch, I'm in EE) what is LDR?
Me: Sorry what? (There were programming questions and a sudden electrical quesiton, that too with short form, confused me).
He told me the full form (Light dependent resistor).
I answered (Thanks for saying the full form!).
Man 1 tried to manipulate me, started asking HR questions on why to join IT company and all.
Finally he asked meaning of consultancy, I said the things which I prepared from website. Both were very much impressed!
I was selected for the next Management Round which was the other day.
Manager Round: Only one person.
Me: Happy morning sir! (With a smile).
He: Replied me.
He: Jay, what inspires you?
Me: Told about three personality who inspire me, one of them I said, Mr. Modi.
He: What are the three qualities of Mr. Modi which you like?
Me: I told.
He: If you're a boss in the company and you find out that someone is spreading negativity among other employees, what will you do?
I answered very positively, he seemed impressed.
The ac in that little cabin was too high and I was shivering, so in between I told him that sir I was shivering because the ac was too high and he admitted that! (Otherwise he would have concluded that I was nervous!).
He: Tell me challenging decision of your life.
He: Tell me about your five weaknesses,
Finally, I was selected for the final HR round.
He: Two whole days process and that too during weekends, you must be tired right now (It was 6. 30 pm of Sunday evening).
I said I must not complain about it, it's about my career.
He: Tell me about yourself briefly.
He: Explained about bonds.
He: Any questions.
I asked his experience while giving interview for TCS.
After 12 days, I got my offer letter from TCS! OMG! I'm feeling so much happy now!
Advice for Technical Interview: Prepare basic questions of C and C++ (generally they ask what I mentioned). Also prepare one simple program of C.
They check your communication skills also.
Only one advice for the other two rounds: Be it your self, be confident, don't try to fake your self, be honest about everything they ask. You will surely get placed if you keep in mind these things.
All The BEST!
