Tata Consultancy Services Placement Paper - KOLKATA MARCH 23rd, 2014

Posted By : Abhisek Das Rating : +104, -19
My interview experience today at Techno India, Saltlake, kolkata 9am slot:

First of all, I would like to say that there was only ONE round of interview; i.e. no separate TR+MR+HR. In my case and also for all the students of my slot.

Secondly, The interview panel consisted of 3 persons. They were simultaneously GRILLING us with their questions.

Finally, be prepared to face some awkward questions as would be evident from my interview experience as follows:

My panel consisted of 2 sirs and a madam.

I entered the cubicle.

Me: May I come in?

Madam: Yes, please. Have your seat.

Madam (While checking my TCS application form, CV and Hall ticket) : Introduce yourself mentioning your strengths and weaknesses, Abhisek.
Me: Told.

Madam: Do you have any pending backlogs?
Me: No.

Madam: Which college are you from?
Me: Told.

Sir no.1: OK. So you are a student of Computer Sc. And Engg?
Me: Yes.

Sir no.1: Can you tell me the unit of current?
Me: SI unit is Ampere and CGS unit is Coulomb.  (May be he thought I will get nervous by hearing questions from Basic Electrical Engineering but I wasn't. ;) ).

Sir no.1: Draw the symbol of capacitance.
Me: Drawn.

Sir no.1: What is Newton's third law of motion?
Me: Told.

Sir no.1: What is Newton's first law of motion?
Me: Told.

Sir no.1: What is the assumption that we consider in Newton's first law of motion?
Me: Told.

Sir no.1: Can you derive Newton's third law of motion from the formula F=ma?
Me: I did it but took a few minutes to do it (By that time I was feeling like slapping him on the face. -_-).

Sir no.1: He took a piece of paper and drew a simple circuit placing 1nohm, 2 ohm, 3 ohm resistances in series and also a capacitor at the other end. Told me to find the capacitance?

Me: Sir I do not remember the exact way to find capacitance but I can show you how to find the effective resistance of this circuit. ;).
Sir no.1: OK. That will do. Show me.

Me: Shown him.

Sir no.1:  (Suddenly) I see that you have an interest in Cricket (mentioned in my CV as one of my extracurricular activities). Can you tell me which cricketer holds the record of having the highest strike rate and also more than 500 runs in T20?

(I was barely able to keep my cool. My face started turning pale with anger. I mean WTF are you asking such questions. ).

Me:  (Politely) Sir actually I do have an interest in Cricket but you know its not like that I am totally crazy about it and keep in touch with each and every detail of the game.

Sir no.1: OK. Abhisek, so what is your favourite subject?
Me: Core Java.

Sir no.1: What is OOPS?
Me: Told.

Sir no.1: What is the difference between Inheritance in C++ and inheritance in Java?
Me: C++ supports multiple inheritance but Java does not. Supported my answer with an example (code segment) also.

Sir no.1: Difference between DDL and DML?
Me: Told.

Sir no.1: Can you tell me what is commit?
Me: Told.

Sir no. 1: What is rollback?
Me: Told but fumbled a bit.

(Suddenly Sir no. 2 interrupted. He was sleeping all this while. : P) and asked me.

Sir no.2: Which school are you from?
Me: Told.

Sir no.2: What are your extracurricular activities?
Me: Told.

Sir no.2: Do you read novels?
Me: Yes sir.

Sir no.2: Who is your favourite author?
Me: Chetan Bhagat.

Sir no.2: Which novel of his do you like most?
Me: Revolution 20 20.

Sir no.2: Why ?
Me: Told.

(Then again he became silent. : P).

Sir no.1: Explain me foreign key, primary key, Outer join.
Me: Explained foreign and primary key with the help of an example but fumbled while explaining Outer join.

Sir no.1: What is your favourite subject?
Me: Sir, I told Core Java (politely).

Sir no.1: Oh sorry. Forgot. Ok explain me how Polymorphism is implemented in Java.
Me:

Explained both static and run time polymorphism (that is, method overloading and overriding).
Sir no.1: OK Abhisek. Do you have any questions for me?
Me: No sir.
(Suddenly).

Madam: Why do you want to join TCS?
Me: Told.

Madam: OK. We are done with you. You may leave for the day. I mean you don't have to wit outside also. You may go back home.

That's all guys! : ) hope it will help you.
