Hello Aspirants,

I have attended as a final year M-Tech student for the campus drive of TCS EIS on 21-23 Sept 2013. Firstly there was a pre-placement talk and formalities and students from only Mech. & ETCE were allowed to appear for the written test.

There were 2 parts in the online written exam. viz verbal and aptitude section. Having higher marks, I(with 11 others) had to appear for only verbal test. There was a task of writing an official letter based on some given keywords withing 10 minutes. According to me,  previous practice may come handy in that case because time management is a thing. For aptitude test, approx. 60 questions were to be answered within 90 minutes.

Questions were moderate, RS Aggarwal is more than enough as I heard from my friends.

105 students appeared in total for written exam out of which only 30 cleared for interview. Interview was held on next working day. In interview there were 3 rounds but the first 2 rounds were elimination rounds as I think.

In the first round, the interview was solely technical. In near about 20 minutes questions from various fields were asked by 2 experienced persons. They checked my CV very carefully. As for example:

Sir : tell us about your academic career
Me : Told.

Sir : Why did you decide to pursue masters?
Me : Told.

Sir : Tell about your btech project.
Me : Told.

Sir : What is GOS in telecommunication, what is its standard value in India
Me : Fumbled, answered wrongly.

Sir : Differentiate between OSI model & TCP/IP model
Me : Told.

Sir : Give few examples of wireless networks
Me : WiFi, Wimax.

Sir : Class A,B,C IPs.
Me : Told.

Sir : Some random easy questions about digital, circuit theory.
Me : Told.

Sir : Why do you want to get a job atm?? Why TCS?? What are your expectations from TCS?
Me : Told.

Sir : What if you are given night shift and/or a very bad project?
Me : Told.

One of the interviewer gave me some insightful view about the TCS and whole industry. After that I was given permission to leave.

After 20-30 minutes, I was again called for 2nd round of interview where I had to face the Head of EIS Domain in TCS Kolkata. This is solely an overall knowledge test because That person was not from my stream(He was Mech. Engg. from JU). He went through my CV again and again. He asked about my computer proficiency.

Asked me a lot about Matlab as my current mtech project is matlab-based. I had to explain constellation diagram(ETCE students will understand) with great difficulty to a mechanical engg. few questions about Gate ranking, whether I got any other job, why I did M-tech instead of job etc. He asked me why I did not join TCS IT 2 years back in BTech.

After another 1 hour, I was again summoned by the HR. It was a cool experience. Asked about my family, my hobby. Learning about reading as my hobby, she also asked which book I read recently, what other books I read etc. She asked whether I had any problem in relocating and as usual I said no. After that some common discussion about my family. She finally told me about the bond and thats it.

As I saw, some of my friends were not called for 2nd/3rd round of interview at all indicating they have not cleared the previous interview.

The whole process was delayed from the beginning and finally the result was declared at 10:30 pm. A total of 15 students were selected and I was one of them.
