I wrote the NTPC exam held on April 22nd 2007 (instrumentation discipline) I would like to share syllabus & pattern of the exam. I hope that it will b useful for future candidates.  There were totally 170 ques (120 subject based que & 50 aptitudue que)

time 2 hrs.

subject questions:
que frm microprocessor 8085, interupts (e.g which intrpt has highest priority), address line, architecture.
control systems: routh criteria, all basics.
opamp, inst amplifier, inverting amplifier
hexa decimal conv, BCD conv
multivibrators, abt bistable multivibrator, amplitude modulation, richter scale is used to measure?
bio gas
instrumentation:LVDT, strain gauge, P, I, controllers, feed forward controllers, bellows, match d following que lyk e.g

seeback effect-?
piezo electric effect-?
diffrnt types of control valves, more que frm P,I,Dcontrollers.
in dp type inst, flow is proportional to?
signal conditioning, coriolis flow meter, probs based on accuracy
go through all d instrumentation papers.

Aptitude:
problms frm ratio, profit loss, volumes, pipes n cisterns etc.
word analogies, paragraph que, fill in d most suitable type que, antonyms, synonyms
