MindTree Interview Experience - Kolkata, Sept 25 2016

Posted By : Rohit Sharma Rating : +86, -8
Hi. I am Rohit Sharma from Asansol Engineering College. I was in the four students selected in MindTree for the post of engineer in C1 competency.

There were 4 stages in the selection process:

1. AMCAT test for quantitative, verbal, reasoning, etc.
2. AMCAT online coding test.
3. Tech Interview.
4. HR Interview.

The first 2 stage took place on 9th September 2016 in Asansol Engineering College, Asansol and the rest were on 25th of September, 2016 in Techno India College of Technology, Rajarhat, Kolkata.

Students from ECE, IT & CSE were eligible for the company. After clearing the first test, you will be given two programs to code.

My two programs were:

1. A pattern.

2. Write a function to return a sorted array after merging two unsorted arrays, the parameters will be two integer pointers for referencing arrays and two int variable, the length of arrays (Hint: use malloc() to allocate memory for 3rd array):

After first 2 rounds, 14 students out of almost 300 got selected for the interview round. most of them could do only one program.

Technical Interview:

After waiting a long time, they called my name for interview:

Me: May I come in sir.
TI: Yes, please.
(Moved in and wished him 'Good Afternoon')

TI: Good noon. (raised hand to shake) Please take your seat it's for you only (and gave a smile).
Me: Thank You, Sir (with a nice smile).

TI: So Mr. Rohit Sharma... O Rohit Sharma... cricketer?
Me: No sir. I am the another one (and gave a charming smile)
(I was much confident without any nervousness)

TI: That's well, Please start with introducing yourself.
Me: Started with my name, education, and family in brief, mainly focused on my technical interest, strengths weaknesses, and achievements.
(He got impressed as I said am also interested in publishing articles and blogs on technical solutions and tricks apart from developing computer & web applications)

TI: What subjects you studied in your engineering?
Me: Said.
(asked few questions on stack, queue, and other general data structure questions)

TI: What were your coding round questions?
(just to check, do I still remember those questions or not)
Me: Said.
(said me to explain how I solved)

TI: What were your last group project and your role?
Me: Said.

TI: Challenges?
(we had a good discussion on challenges and how we overcome)
(Got impressed once again)

TI: Say about your solo projects? what are your strategies while working on any project?
Me: (I explained my projects one by one, and also showed some of my projects on the internet)
(Hugely Impressed this time and shook hand once again to congratulate me for my nice works)

TI: So, you are a developer... coder... what are the things motivate you for your job?
(the toughest question of the interview)
Me: (I tried my best, but not worked, He was not satisfied with my answer)
(He started writing something on my CV and meanwhile, he asked Are you interested in any other field than coding & developing?)
Me: Not much, but I can work if company assigns, I will try hard to give the best result but as I know myself I am fit for development area.

TI: Am seeing that but the company needs an all rounder who can work on what they assign depending upon the current project.
(Had a discussion on this. Mistakenly I said that I am not interested in Networking so much and ragged badly :P ).

TI: Say me how much you know about networks?
Me: Not much, just a few protocols.

TI: Name them?
Me: Said few of the protocols.

TI: Okey. That's all. It was nice to talk with you.
(He shook hand)

TI: See you soon in MindTree Bangalore.
Me: Sure Sir (and gave a smile with full of confidence).

HR Interview:
I was confident that I will be eligible for HR round as my technical interview went very smooth and I also managed to impress the interviewer. 8 students were eligible for the HR round. In HR interview,

- He asked me about my family background and asked a question,

- 'Where is the training center of Mindtree?'
I answered.

Then she said me to say how would I write an email to a client stating there will be a delay in delivery of the project. I gave my best. She said me thank you and I left the room. (My HR interview was for 2 to 3 mins only, It was just a formality).

The result came out at 8 pm (approx). 1 student from IT, 1 student from ECE and 2 from CSE were selected and I was one of the CSE students. We were given the 'Intent to offer letter' in our hand at the same time of announcing our names.

Tips: Try to impress them. Don't stop talking to the interviewer, NEVER lie, be CONFIDENT and keep smiling (smile is very very very important, it's a sign of your confidence level).
