Infosys Interview Experience - Hyderabad [27-10-2014]
Here is how my selection procedure for Associate system engineer at Infosys was,
Venue: Sri Devi Women's College, Hyderabad.
I don't remember much of the Aptitude questions. It was pretty easy. Verbal was little lengthy but not too hard given the amount of time given for that section.
Reasoning was easy. 25 minutes 15 questions. Any guy from math background can solve all the questions. The same with quants but the no.of questions were 10. Except one question, the remaining questions were easy.
Verbal was a bit length. But it had 40 questions 35 min. Two passages with 5-6 questions each and the answers can be found directly in the passage. All few other sections which I hardly remember. Good practice will surely help. If you are little far away from that no need to worry.
Looking at the crowd that turned out for the interview made me feel that almost everyone who took the written test must have cleared it. Many were preparing at the venue. I had gone through the abstract and introduction of my academic project.
I had my written test on 26th of October 2014 and I got a mail from Infosys informing me that I am being shortlisted for the interview and the interview was held the very next day.
Its been a while I touched my B.Tech books. So I hardly had any time to prepare for the interview. I just read few interview experiences and jotted down few points.
Then I packed my bag with all the required documents and a few books so that I can study at the venue.
I had my interview at 11. I was called in at 12. People were segregated into groups and each group is taken to a panel. Mostly one interviewer in each panel.
Me: (Couldn't ask for permission to go in as the interviewer was far away from the door.
So I just entered. Wished him) good afternoon.
Interviewer: (He didn't look at me)
Interviewer: (He didn't say anything. He already had my documents: marks memos, application and others). sit down!
Me: thank you sir!
Interview: Tell me about yourselves?
Me: Told about myself.
Then just a little talk. Then,
Interviewer: So! Can you please tell me about your project!
Me: (I was from ECE stream. So I didn't a project based on circuits with some coding involved about which the interviewer had no idea) I started off well as i prepared for that question. So I told him about my project a bit in detail.
Interviewer: You didn't any coding?
Me: Yes sir. In verilog.
Interview: You didn't work on programming languages.
Me: yes sir. Verilog, VHDL, Matlab.
Interview: Tell me about the programming done in your project.
me: (I was a bit nervous as was not prepared for this. As I didn't go through the coding part) I told him about the coding part, but not very confidently.
Interviewer: I understand that yours is not a project at all.
Me: (I was quite).
Interviewer: Tell me anything you know about C. (I mentioned that in my CV)
Me: (I didn't prepare for this as well due to lack of time. From the knowledge I had I tried to make some sense). He was not convinced.
Interviewer: You don't even know C language. I cannot ask you anything. Even if I ask you, I am sure you can't answer.
Me: Sir, I am good at programming. (we had many programming languages during our B.Tech. Fortunately I was good at few. I told him about the programming languages I am good it. Verilog, VHDL, Matlab, C)
Interviewer: Tell me about your role in your project.
Me: (This is where I was could speak something to convince him that I am eligible for this job indeed) Just told him about my role in the team as i was the lead of our project team in final year. My role. Other team members' role. My contribution towards the team.
Interviewer: When you are so good at electronics why do you want to join IT form?
Me: I was prepared for this. So answered it little easily. He was not convinced as he was sure that I don't have any knowledge related to IT.
Interviewer: Even if ask you anything in "C" I am sure you cannot answer.
Me: (Here I don't panic. I told the interviewer convincingly) Sir, I am good at programming.
You can ask me to write any code. I will try. Even if you cannot write. I can at least come up with the logic sir.
Interviewer: (He asked me to write few codes, basic programs, Fibonacci series) Gave me a pen and paper.
Me: I just wrote the code.
Interviewer: Any more questions?
Me: How long would it take to receive offer letter?
Interviewer: Why? Do you have any other job offer waiting?
Me: No sir.
Interviewer: Then? And how do you know that you will be selected?
Me: I came with the confidence that I will be selected.
Interviewer: What gave you that confidence?
Me: I was silent.
At that moment I was frightened. I don't want to ask anything. I just asked. I dont know why. And unfortunately it didn't go well.
Then the interview calmly said that the selection is not in his hands and he does not know anything about the information i asked him for.
He asked me to leave.
He then asked me to come back. But only to collect the pen he gave me as I mistook it to be mine.
He said that is not your pen.
I apologized and returned the pen.
Overall due to lack of time I could not prepare as much as I wanted to. Then unfortunately i could not do as well I anticipated to. I was nervous which was not very helpful at that moment. Though I could manage to overcome it. A cool composure would always yield best result.
Just chill and attend the drive.
Then slowly Infosys started sending out offer letters to everyone. I waited for 20 long days.
And today I received my offer letter.
Date of joining: 1st december, 2014.
