IBM Associate System Engineer Interview Pattern - Salem, March 15 and 18(Chennai), 2015.
I have recently attended for IBM off campus drive in Salem, Tamilnadu. I'm here to to post my interview experience and the way you can crack it.
First round was/will be Online aptitude test that consists of Number series pattern(18 questions) and reasoning part(18 questions).
Each question has a time limit of 2.15 Minutes after which the next question will be displayed. So be careful while working on each and every question and have a look at the timer.
Let us think you have marked the answer for a question while the timer is at 00:10 seconds(10 seconds remaining) then please don't get panicked/tensed. Once you marked the answer before 2.15 minutes the answer will be automatically saved. If you click on NEXT option on the screen before 2.15 minutes then it will display you the next question and if you don't wish to do so then you have a buffer time of 30 seconds after which the next question will be displayed so you can feel relaxed for a moment(DO NOT FOLLOW THIS FOR EVERY QUESTION). This helped me personally.
Series: You can go through IndiaBix IBM Interview experiences and many of them have posted many questions on Series. Just practice each and every model.
Aptitude: Don't go through all the topics, If you are good enough in all topics then its fine and If you are short of time then go through topics like:
Topics Priority
1. Averages. Medium
2. Time and Work. "HIGH"
3. Time, Speed and Distance. "HIGH"
4. SI and CI Low
5. Profit and loss Low
6. Permutations and probability Medium
7. Probability Medium
After qualifying this round you will need to attend Kenexa online communication test which has 22 questions and 20 minutes. (No timer on the screen so take a wrist watch with you).
Topics: Punctuation, Active/passive voice, Direct/Indirect speech, "BUSINESS" email writing rules.
After clearing this round you will be called for Face to Face Interview.
Firstly, Don't get tensed when you are about to face an Interview. Be CONFIDENT.
Maintain eye contact.
IBM Interviewers are the best till date(For me). They are very friendly and make you feel comfortable.
My experience:
Me: Good Evening Sir, How are you ?
Interviewer: Ya fine man thank you.
Interviewer: Why should I look at your Resume ?
Me: Said(I was literally tensed as the general first question would be Introduce your self)
Interviewer: Tell me about yourself.
Me: Told my complete biography.(I have prior work experience)
Interviewer: Why did you leave your previous organisation?
Me: Said about career options and why I wish to be in Software Industry.
Interview: What is the most challenging Situation in your Life ?
Me: Said about the situation I faced.(Be specific while answering this question and please DO NOT bluff, IBM HR's are too intelligent that they can identify easily if you are saying truth or not).
Interviewer: What is the most Innovative thing you have done till now ?
Me: Said about my hobby project. (He was impressed).
Interviewer: Do you have any questions for me ?
Me: Asked about a recent technology that is growing widely. (Make sure you have a question to ask and that to technology related.)
Interviewer: Told about that and asked if there are any other questions.
Me: No, Sir. Thank you. It was pleasure talking to you.
Finally they announced results after two hours and whoa ! By God's grace and my parents blessings, I got selected for IBM. That moment is unforgettable and amazing feeling. It's the most happiest day in my life.
I congratulate each and every one who were selected.
There were no technical questions except some basic C programs. So prepare basics that's enough. However it all depends on your luck at that moment. Few interviewers may ask complete technical questions or complete HR questions or may be both.
Don't feel bad if you were rejected in the HR round, who knows there might be something better for you.
All the best guys.
