IBM Interview Experience - BANGALORE, SEPTEMBER 26TH, 2013

Posted By : Sanku Rating : +584, -13
Hi, I would like to share the recruitment process for IBM which was held on 26th & 27th sept, 2013 @ BMSCE,Bangalore. It was pool campus, BMSCE & BMSIT. I am from EEE  background, with 8.1 cgpa.

Job Position : Associate System Engineer.

Around 500 odd students registered from all the departments.

Round 1: Number series (18 Q),
              Aptitude(18 Q) [BOTH ONLINE].

Round 2: Kenexa Online Communication Test(22 Q).

Round 3: HR Interview.

I would like to throw some light on the types of questions asked and the whole process of recruiting.

Round 1:

The main highlight of this round is EACH QUESTION HAS 2 min 15 sec TIMER.

I went through some papers in this site, so I knew Number series questions would be asked. Concentrate on series with 8-9 terms and not on short series with 5-6 terms. Practice on the different patterns which could be asked. This section Can make the difference.

Aptitude questions were from the following topics.

1. Ratio and Proportions
2. Time , Speed & Distance.
3. Percentages
4. Profit,Loss & Discount.
5. Time & Work.

Don't  waste your time solving problems on Permutations and Combinations, Probability and other topics. Just concentrate on these topics.

Questions are not formula based. So be prepared with basics and apply logic.

We can use the system calculator.

Out of 500, 80 were Shortlisted for communication test on the same day. Even I was one among them

Round 2:

Communication test is DAMN EASY if you know the ABC OF ENGLISH & BUSINESS LETTERS.

This section had 22 questions. NO TIMES FOR EACH QUESTION AS ABOVE, Whole section is for 20 mins.

Concentrate on these topics.

Active and passive voice(Basic).
Direct and indirect speech (Basic).
SYNONYMS AND ANTONYMS(ALL 3 TOPICS 1 EACH) .

Most of the question will be from Business Letters and email.

Surf for the different BRITAIN business letter formats. In letters concentrate on salutations , 5 different types of email , punctuation marks and the content.

Most of the options look similar and DON'T go for ALL OF THE ABOVE option. Think before you choose.

Among 80, 40 were shortlisted for HR interview.

ROUND 3:

The HR panel was very friendly. Each Panel had one member. The interview lasted from 5 min - 45 min. I literally mean 5 min.

All they see is your communication skills, be prepared with FAQ HR questions. They make ask Technical, just to judge your communication skills nothing more. Be prepared with whatever is their in your RESUME and even Project.

Case Study questions may be asked, and Y not Core n all. Make sure not to mention during the interview regarding your higher studies. Tell them you are ready to work anywhere within INDIA.  Prepare few questions like

Whats your role when you join?
Work culture at IBM?
WHY IBM is called BIG BLUE?
WHY THERE ARE 8 BARS IN ITS LOGO?

The level of difficulty goes down as you clear each round. I am proud to be an IBMer. :-)

Just be positive and confident about yourself. Your score in academics doesn't matter. Only under rare case , you may get rejected here.

And finally out of 40, 38 were selected!

All the best!! :).
